Yes, both of those suggestions are very good for more damage, the only problem is that the build quickly runs out of slots for resistances on gear (and indeed we already take some resistances on the tree to make up for that)

You have your rings, amulet, body armour and boots for resistances, and you want (at the very least) 141% total elemental resistances + 135 chaos ( that's 84% elemental resistances per item, and 27% chaos resistance per item, which translates into 2 tier 2 elemental resistance mods and 1 tier 2 chaos resistance mod in _every single item_. If you replace them with more uniques you will quickly run out of slots to put resistances in (and have to compensate with more nodes on the tree, or more jewels with resistance modifiers).

It's definitely doable with a high budget but not leaguestart friendly
Yeah I did notice that I didn’t have much room for ele res. I might drop the ring and go for a hunter influenced body armor with the additional curse prefix. Saw that you can also get it on delve drops too.

First of all ty for the build, played in 3.25 when the new gem replaced the old blocking gem.

Did a test with

No forgiveness 20% not to consume, Measured retaliation 50% + new Runegraft of time 20%, total 90% chance not to consume cd
With 90% chance, 1 block allow 4 uses, happened more often
With 70% 2 use, sometime 3, rarely 4

with 90% chance + Cruel Retort
Still crit on the 4th use, as I placed a coc + bladefall in 6 link body armour to test

Next, if we hit the boss with crushing fist, along with The impaler for 1st time, we cannot apply impale anymore using crushing fist
but we can still hit the boss for another 3 times (assuming the 90% chance kick in) and get a 100% crit

After that recall the impale

Was thinking of adding a EQ of amplification and prolong it to 5s, use that as a timer guide when to press the recall. Since EQ of amplification support unarm as well

You raise an interesting point, however there is a key factor you are missing: The 90% chance to not consume is ideal for clearing more monsters faster, but not so much for oneshot potential - (Like you mention, The Impaler keystone stops you from applying any more impales for 5 seconds after the first hit) which means if your first hit is not the critical strike, you won't get any good impales to call later.

Furthermore, the extra attacks on the boss do not apply any impale, and instead consume the impale stacks slowly, for a small gain in dps compared to waiting it out and calling them.

I did not try EQ of amplification, but maybe it can be scaled to even bigger numbers than Crushing Fist, I look forward to seeing your theorycrafting on this! Just bear in mind that if EQ applies Impales, you will be prevented from calling them for another 5 seconds (because of the Impaler)

I have tested it indeed op, tried one hand sword and two hand sword.
Yet to get a chance to find a merc to try 2 hand axe or mace

one interesting thing is using the new unique helmet
howlcrack Ezomyte Burgonet, the merc will just keep on crying whenever there is creep/mob near you, they will not attack. Thus uptime is 100%
Just need to make sure life regen, recovery is over 15%
The amulet used in the video is expensive, can try to equip merc with all blight item for the extra enchant
Managed to get Eternal achievement with this build, almost SSF, with exception of the Abyssus that I got from you. Thx again, it's a really fun build.

Only real dangers for this build that I have noticed are voodoo dolls and DoT.

I'm not sure what issues you had with Voodoo dolls, since I never really had any trouble with them, but phys degen is a killer for the build, i agree.
