January 10 Screenshot of the Week

actually i was thinking of scams like swapping item out in the trade window before the button got pressed type thing.maybe a button to lock the trade before the trade button is pressed?
people getting the value of the trade wrong is just their bad luck. hopefully we'll have a trade forum and slowly an economy will develop that everybody knows.

Are you thinking of something like a trade value equalization?

e.g.
Player A wants to trade gem of frost (value 10000)
Player B wants to trade a brutal club (value 6000)
if the sum value of both of the items wanted to trade has a difference of more than 10% (1600) as there is in this example, the trade could not be completed without a cash or item addition?

Sure, it would be wonderful to have the game arbitrarily decide what is "fair."
While we are at it could monster damage scale with level disparity? Those poor low level people need a break. How can we expect them to level up without extra help?
People really shouldn't have to educate themselves about the game economy, because after all --without access to an ivy-league education-- how can we expect them to make the right choices?

The item names in the text box that you can hover your mouse over need to be a different color or font (or both) to differentiate their functionality from the rest of the text. Otherwise, it looks good.

Actually I thought about the same thing.
He who fights with monsters
might take care lest he thereby
become a monster.

I agree as well though I suppose the picture of the item may be enough.

I like the simplicity, just drag and drop (though shift clicking or something similar wouldn't be so bad either but hey).
can i sell my house to play now?
Yep, we'll support something like shift+click also.

The colour of the item text will be changed as you suggest (and the name of the rare will probably show up also). This was just the initial version :)

As for the shadows debate, we're constantly changing settings and materials. I don't know if any larger changes were made to that scene between those two screenshots.

I know no one wants to admit it, but the single greatest thing about an ARPG is the moment of rapture when you see gold/purple text hit the ground. This is very crucial aspect to get right. The burnt gold look of D2 uniques was very good.
yep, being good is not enough, it has to have a good text system and colors to go with it all

like you say, cant beat seeing a rare color catch your eye

Screenshot also reveals another class, Desecrator. Int/Dex.

Not necessarily... it shows a Witch and Ranger trading. Desecrator could be some super kewl name the player was partial too. But I guess we'll find out.

Despite showing a Witch and Ranger, the actual name of a character shouldn't be a class like Ranger, right?

They say int/dex item but the "witch" doesn't have anywhere near enough int as the int class?

Desecrator sounds like a very cool class name and fits in with the rest of the class names so far.
