[Item} Voll's Protector not worth it

I posted sometime ago that there is no way to discuss uniques without the skills, passives and item values being defined for good.

I agree that some uniques aren't worth s*** but voll's is far from that. It is a must for glasscannons.

It's not the low level uniques that are the problem, it's the unique weapons. The special mods on unique armors and accessories are quite often worth it, but giving up the damage on a weapon is never worth it.

You said its never worth giving up damage on a weapon, i say no. Take Death's Harp, directly compared to a thicket with 2-3 elemenatal damage mods or any other high end rare bow, its damage is shit. Take Poison Arrow and build your passive arround it, and you will never reach the resulting damage with any rare bow.

And how is that? The only thing special about Death's Harp is it has high damage for its level, and a built-in extra projectile. If the person using the rare bow uses multiple projectiles and the person using Death's Harp uses any other damaging support gem, the Death's Harp has no way of catching up. The rare bow user will do more damage and fire more projectiles since Multiple Projectiles adds more projectiles than Death's Harp, and one support gem doesn't add enough damage to make up for the difference between Death's Harp and a high level rare.

first of all, the added projectile comes with no disadvantage, none what so ever (both lesser and greater multi proj reduce your damage, e.g. lesser multi lvl18 calculates (x*0.7)*1.31 x=the damage).
second of all there is another mod on the weapon that is adding a crazy amount of damage. It is the %crit multi and since its on the weapon itself, it is multiplicatively added and not additively.
And third point, either you didnt read my post well or at all, because there is a reason why i mentioned Poison arrow. Maybe you will figure it out ....

But the thing i know is that volls is not crap at all.
Like many other peep said. Its a unique that changes playstyle n affects speficic/niche builds.
Take cyclone/discharge build for ex.
Volls is NOT a must BUT it is very very valuable to the build.
Well i woud ve very happy if one of those drops for me! Lol

I doubt that many people would claim that voll needs a rework atm, it's not meant to be a super strong high level unique, just a build enabler ( and a high level char can play with it, even though Cast on crit exists now ).

Honestly I wouldn't even call Volls a niche-item. Every high power-charge build could utilize it, since you get power-charges by simply linking cwdt with icespear which is the easiest thing you can do. As soon as you profit from powercharges hugely dropping a chest for Volls is always a possibility, exspecially since it is only 50% reduced, not less mana.

Actually, Voll's Protector is a type of Unique "weapon". You just need to know how to use it ;-)

This thread is so old, when I saw my post I initially thought someone had hacked my account to post inoffensive opinions.

On topic, I just so happen to be currently using Voll's on one of my characters. It's a good unique. Essentially having Power Charge on Critical linked to everything isn't trivial in the least. Especially now that Cast on Crit exists.

When this thread was made volls was garbage. Game changes a lot in over a year.
