Memory overflow in linux
Hi there,
I installed Steam on Ubuntu 22.04 and launched POE through it. The game works well, but memory is constantly flowing. I have 16 gigabytes and after 2 hours of playing it crashes due to lack of memory. How can I solve this problem? I can't use the swap file because I have an SSD. " why do a SSD prevents you from using a swap file ? I have an SSD and uses a swap file without problems...... |

" I'm not sure, but I think it's a bad idea. Details - https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/lthoah/is_it_ok_to_me_making_a_swap_partition_on_an_ssd/ I just checked and I have a swap file. 2GB. Apparently this is not enough.. $ free -h total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 15Gi 2,0Gi 6,3Gi 791Mi 7,0Gi 12Gi Swap: 2,0Gi 7,0Mi 2,0Gi |

" This was an issue with Gen1 of SSD's. It isn't a problem anymore. |

" I agree. Of course I can enlarge the swap file. But it's not normal that the game requires so much memory. The system requirements say something completely different. |

" The PoE client will use ALL the memory it can get for cache preloads. You can reduce that a little by setting texture to Medium and Sound channel to low. |

" I've already setup this. |

" Well you will need to increase your swap file or install windows on your pc. |

"Just checked - on my (Ubuntu 22.04, non-Steam) system PoE uses just ~5.3G memory after playing a bit. Based on 'top' output. If for most players it uses more this could be related to my "asset loading times" in my mouse click bug thread... No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" it's possible but then again, you like @OP are running PoE on a unsupported OS....... Last edited by HanSoloDK#4843 on Jun 3, 2023, 7:23:10 PM
