The potential of Path of Exile's dynamic content -- End-Game? What End-Game?**

Brec, you just suggested Diablo 3. Which, if I recall correctly, you dislike intensely.

I really dislike D3 yes, but how come my thoughts remind you D3 anyway, huh ?

If it is cause of randomized quest system by any chance, what gives the birth of that system is Diablo itself, not D3.

Diablo 3 puts those 3 things together:

They have random quests with the events.

They have going back to previously played levels with the multiple difficulties, plus the achievements, plus the events being random, plus the interaction of those 3 things together (EG, if you want all the achievements, you have to hunt for random events, possibly across multiple difficulties...). Plus, really, it's an ARPG, "farming" is going back to a previously played level, and is S.O.P.

And it has areas which are randomly generated with (or without) side quests, with the waypoint or exit over THERE instead of over HERE, with the crown being in the North Crypt this time, the South Crypt next time, the North Crypt the time after that, and the West Crypt next time.

And yet, you say that the game that puts those 3 things together will be "a hellish masterpiece of the genre, without a doubt."

Well didn't know they use that system more or less until you told me so. But then again i never cared what system they are using anyway, so this is out of question for me. I just wanted to point out what kind of things could be made in order to improve "replayability", and lessen the repetitiveness feeling as much as possible.

So, it's a hellish masterpiece of the genre... Unless it's a game you don't like?

I suppose a game can do things well, or a game can do things poorly, but the overall is what's important. Replayability doesn't mean squat if gameplay isn't fun. Gameplay being fun doesn't mean anything if that gameplay doesn't achieve anything. Fulfilling progress doesn't mean anything if the progress goes nowhere (For example, due to a poor story.). This could keep going forever.

I'm not entirely sure what my point is. You don't like D3, but you like the bits that make up D3. *Shrug*
Before making another likely long response, I want to agree that yes, THOSE aspects of D3 are spectacular. Combine that sort of thing with PoE's Everything Else, including a much more fluid system of content addition/modification, and you definitely have a masterpiece on your hands.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

Great thread! I really enjoyed reading it, lot of good points brought up.

I found out about PoE recently and it look REALLY promising! I can't wait to see what GGG will implement further down the road to make the experience deeper. I personally like the idea of variation to acts, random events (no matter how small) or random quests a lot. The main focus for me is interacting with other people and growing my character, but things like that would greatly enhance the experience and make it more fun in the long run.

As i said before my suggestions (compiled from yours also) are nothing to do with Diablo 3's concept (after you said achievements) But worse thing is i think you are stuckt within Diablo 3 so i fear i can't help your further about this.

Also, i doubt you will ever understand that randomization is one of the best ever thing that would turn PoE into gold, and its is from Diablo. (if you ever played it..)

Besides, even though i dislike Diablo 3, doesn't mean i dislike everything they brought up 100%. Get it now ?

And yet, you haven't still suggest any valid point regarding how to improve the gameplay replayability value by any means, but trying to tell me that x,y mechanics are already from Diablo 3, and so on, AgentDave.
