The Fear of Missing Out on PoE
Well after the wrong decisions in the Dev Manifesto of 3.13 the Fear of Missing out became real. I had to finish at least two builds before the possibility is gone.
Since 3.13 ended i must be honest i can barely appreciate the game anymore. Not because content is too hard or anything my personal goals go towards min/maxing its what kept me so excited and kept me actively playing so much in 3.13 like many other players who played the fuck out of the last patch which can be seen from their characters. 3.13 was the best time to play this game for a min/maxer. Take that away throw in some nerfs without buffs or meta shakeups and stale meta boring Ultimatum league is the result. Last edited by zzang#1847 on Jun 10, 2021, 10:11:07 AM

" Ritual dropped plenty of maps. Maps that you wouldn't get in standard. Consumable are finite. You can't sustain map currency by yourself so every additional source results in you dropping more map at average. " I never said you can't map in standard. However being able to sustain maps doesn't equate to fun and enjoyable experience. Running "vanilla" version of maps isn't funny. Interacting with random % content outside of what you want to do and specic region also isn't something fun to do. And finally, running random garbage maps is once again something opposite of fun. This is what i said: " League content provides you with maps, map currency or both at once. Higher map return/map means more maps you are potentially interested in. If i want harbi unique I want to get as many maps of specific region as possible. But even among maps from specific zone i only want some of them. Just because necropolis or maze belong to harbi region it doesnt mean i want to run this maps. So in order to decrease time spend on content im not interested in i have to increase average number of maps dropped per map and this is where "new league content" come into play. " How is that in any way different from the league? lol. You do understand that we aren't in the Ritual league anymore, right? Seen as you keep bringing it up as 'evidence'... It is as it has always been, that you should be utilizing all avenues to produce the most maps. -- Yes, you get a few consumables from whatever the current league mechanic is, because it's in every single map, but they are largely inconsequential, it certainly doesn't allow you to fully juice maps indefinitely. Trying to argue that an extra map or 2 every few maps is the difference between 'having fun' or not is laughable. |

You´ll be oversustaining maps anyways once the Atlas setup is done - standard or challenge doesnt matter.
The only difference is that you have to grind the Atlas setup out in a league and in standard you dont have to. Thats why the legaue mechanic does help to sustain early on and consequently feels important but isnt needed in any way, shape or form in standard. |

Ultimatum for the record is meh for maps. In terms of return it is good but for map sustain it does basically nothing.
I read what OP said but PoE is a game too tough to figure out yourself, either you are part of a community and an active learner or you get infos elsewhere. Most league players follow uniquely guides, at a point you even watch or read those guides in order to absorb the meta and make currency through it. And it is sad, I won't say any names, but lots of guide makers are actually recycling stuff making clic bait content that sux and thousands of players use their material to suck at the game, it is quite like engineered noobism. All that happen because the game is hard as f. Tbh some league mechanics are extremly brutal and narrow the meta probably too much for our own good. I always have fun reading the actual books in The Library, combing The Blood Aquaducts, and looking at all the shiniest things in The Reliquary. Those are my three most favorite places to hang around in the Path of Exile. Sometimes I spend my time going to places I havn't visited in a while like the Vasteri Desert, Delves, Atzoatl Temple, The Coast, or Ossuary's Bone Pits.
I know there will always be that content that I can't do or scare me to death to try it. It's fun running around knowing you arn't invincible too! The one thing I hope to find though is to save Bannon from his horrible fate someday. Maybe the Library can slip in a book about a similar situation, perhaps one of the Beast's body parts can resonate with Kitava's Horns and kill them off, and The Reliquary also is full of supposed treasures that may or may not help me find another path to Kitava. That's what I find fun to do and what keeps me coming back to play my Hardcore Character. *Eats Vanilla Wafers while writing a couple of notes* |
