Not sure if GGG can do this but... Have you thought of a "mirror shield" mechanic? As in, having the posibility to reflect magic projectiles with a small chance.

From my perspective locking out the possibility to wear a unique even if you really work for it (onyx, multiple +attribute etc) is not very good design as it severly limits the possible uses of the item (i.e. your discussion of very high requirements). Please have this in mind.

I'm trying to drop the high requirements but try to restrict the shields ability to be useful to non-hybrids that are stacking. I.e if it strictly regenned ES %, a CI mage with like 10k ES would be invincible. Or if someone with pure armour and only 100 ES, would regenerate 100 ES every block. This way it locks down the Regen based on Armour/ES amount. The item should be intended for people wanting to use Chain items (Armour/ES), I don't see why a unique should reach outside its armour class for usability given its strong ability. | |
friendly bump to keep feedback on this idea coming though I think I have the design fairly solid down, just hoping my like 5 update emails to Erik have been seen to =o or this thread has been noted.
Though there are a number of other Diamond uniques which I understand need to also be attended to. No need to pay special attention my nattering for personal desire of balance. | |

I believe the simplest, most correct solution is to just combine a high strength requirement (a negative mod on the item) with the eshield on block (flat or percentage). Two lines of text, neither are very long, and you get the desired effect. Str/int casters love Iron Will, Str/int melee loves the melee damage, and both love the life. Getting strength nodes isn't as prestigious as picking up a keystone, but it's not bad. In contrast, CI abhors strength since the extra life is wasted (and I wish they'd raise the str requirement on the Iron Will support). As long as the requirement makes you go out of your way for it (more than just 2 points of titanic might, a heavy belt, and an onyx amulet (14+60+35+20 -> 129)), then it's far, far less abusable. Around 200 would be good, because that takes it outside the range of itemization and into passive investment. Good luck in your continued quest to make a hybrid item. :) |

For balancing the ES regen, maybe make it a flat amount? Then it will scale with your block, but not both block and ES.
Another idea could be "upon block, energy shield immediately begins regenerating", though that would actually be even more powerful probably. Maybe a 20% chance? |

I'm not going to fret about it, I'll let the devs deal with the balance as long as I can see the main point on the shield which is the ES regen.

the added energy sheild on block sounds like a nice mod and opens the path for a nice ES tank.
my only question is what would the implicit elemental resist be on the shield? IGN --- Grizdale
