[3.19] 🌋Velyna's Hollow Palm Ground Slam 🌋 | Slayer | Easy Leaguestart | Tanky Boi

3.19 Updates

Nothing major changed for us, except Wildwrap got deleted. It's about a 5% dps loss switching to the new briskwrap, and crafted chests are more appealing to make.

GL in 3.19!

Easy to build melee character that's not afraid to tank some hits and does big damage. Running into packs and slamming them flat feels amazing, plus we can stun nearly anything with Vaal Ground Slam. Easy leaguestart and progression with big power coming from our ascend points. With balanced gear you should hit around ~5500hp and ~10mil DPS.

How to Leaguestart Hollow Palm: https://www.youtube.com/velyna

1. Introduction

1.1. Hollow Palm?

Hollow Palm is a keystone that gives us big damage based on how much DEX we have plus a ton of attack speed. In exchange, we give up both weapon slots and our gloves. No weapons means only unarmed skills can be used even though we are flagged as dual wielding.

1.2. Pros/Cons

Pros
  • Leaguestart and scaling: Just pick up ground slam and go, big power from our ascend makes levelling a breeze and jumping into maps easy as well.
  • Stunning Durability: Ground Slam puts out some big stuns meaning enemies don't get to attack you, and what does get through has to penetrate several layers of defences.
  • Low Stress: Few required items and light on skills to use, this is a very laid back build to play.

Cons
  • Stat budget: The build uses a lot of uniques with low/zero resist, plus we cannot equip gloves or a shield. It's not terribly hard to pack enough on belt/rings but gets expensive if you want damage mods as well.
  • Chaos/Degens: I personally just run near -60 and deal with it, but there is room for some in the build if you can afford it.

1.4. HC/SSF/Leaguestart Viable?

Yes, absolutely. We have enough mitigation HC is possible.

The hardest thing for SSF is our One With Nothing, with that you can get the rest.

Leaguestart is easy and smooth.

1.5. Upgraded PoB
Installer

This version is updated faster and has extra features. The PoB links in the guide all use this and there might be differences from the standard one.

Uninstall PoB before installing this or you might get errors.

2. Leveling

Leveling Trees

- The trees for new characters can be found in the Leaguestart PoB at bottom left. -

IF you have the Hollow Palm jewel already, you don't need a leveling tree literally just path to an outer socket ASAP then put points wherever.

We can use Ground Slam right from act 1 all the way through. Cyclone or any other pure physical skill works also but avoid conversion since we're impale.

Weapon Recipe + Crafting
Sell these items to any vendor for a weapon with %physical damage, which you can augment and/or regal. Also don't forget about your crafting bench, you can almost always squeeze some more DPS/resist out of the gear you find by crafting it.

Act 1

---Attack---

---Auras---

---Movement/Misc---

We get quite a few useful gems early on, with 2 auras and a totem DPS shouldnt be an issue. I used vendor recipe blue 2H axes for my playthrough but GS can be used with a few weapon types should you happen to find a good rare.

Act 2

--Attack--

---Auras---

---Movement/Misc---

Find the cave in Old Fields and kill the bear for either a movement speed flask or belt for vendor crafting. Grab new gems then kill all bandits and move on.

You can keep on Vitality/Clarity if needed.

Act 3

---Attack---

---Auras---

---Movement/Misc---

Use the first 2 ascend points on Brutal Fervour.

If your mana allows, drop Flesh and stone for Pride when you gain access to it.

Act 4-6

---Attack---

---Auras---

---Movement/Misc---

---CWDT---

Make sure to grab the Ground Slam jewel in act 5.

Put second labs ascend points in Unstoppable Hero.

Act 7-10

Third lab points go into Fortitude.

3. Gear

Helmet

Armour base with 9% increased phys damage taken and high life. You will need the Determination enchant to use all your auras. Early on, Fractal Thoughts is a fantastic helm just make sure your strength is higher than intelligence.

Chest

Briskwrap gives us massive DPS, and is usually not too expensive. This can be beat lategame by a crafted chest as shown in PoB.

Boots

We get a ton of health from these with our high DEX, and combined with everything else they offer its an easy choice.

Jewellery

One ring needs Vulnerability on hit, either from synthesis or influence, and we want big DEX plus life. Remember the ring base doesn't matter if you go for synthesis like I did here.. Two minus mana crafts are needed between rings and amulet.

Astramentis will be your amulet for awhile because crafting one can get expensive.

Belt

Cyclopean Coil is fantastic damagewise plus it gives us freeze immunity and a good amount of HP. You can get one corrupted with resistance to make balancing easier, or go uncorrupted then add attribute catalysts.

Jewels

Forbidden Flesh/Flame: The champion ascend Master of Metal granted by these gives an ~11% DPS increase plus 1000 flat armour. Expensive, but powerful. Not needed until late endgame.

Watchers Eye: Impales last additional hits is the biggest DPS, chance for double damage is good to start with.

Large Cluster: We need maximum 8 added passives with Feed the Fury, Martial Momentum, and Martial Prowess. Make sure it has all 3 of those because they are all important, we need a lot of accuracy to meet requirements for Precise Technique.

Small Cluster: Enduring Composure is how we generate endurance charges, it's our only way so don't miss it.

Brutal Restraint: The name on the jewel doesn't matter, only the numbers. Different numbers will apply different bonuses to notable passives in its radius, including flat or % DEX.

Flasks

4. Misc

4.1 Ascend
  • Bane of Legends
  • Brutal Fervour
  • Endless Hunger
  • Impact

4.2 Bandit

Kill all for 2 passives.

4.3 Pantheon

Major: Solaris or Lunaris

Minor: Gruthkul

We pick up some phys mitigation here to round out defence, although these are all flexible.

I'm really tempted to try this one in Heist, haven't done pure melee in ages.
A few questions:
1. Did you get 40 challenges done with this one in Harvest?
2. How does it fare vs. Uber Elder / Sirius / Simulacrum / deep Delves?
3. Any mods it cannot do? Phys reflect?

1. Yes I used it for most of the 40 grind

2. All the endgame bosses are super easy, plus you can stun them out of certain attacks like awakeners 4way beam. It's not amazing for deep delve though.

3. Phys reflect is the main one to avoid. Stuff like cant leech mana or minus max is annoying/dangerous but doable.

Why you take shield nodes in the act 1?You lvling with axe+shield instead of 2 axe?

I used axe+shield yea, the extra slot for life and resists is great on leaguestart and with impale we dont lack damage at all.

Hey i was wondering what gear i should look for during the leveling process if i use this build as a league starter?

1h axes and shields, anything with phys damage+life. Also the universal levelling items: resist rings and good flasks.

Hi,great guide i am definitely league starting with this build and i was thinking maybe taking Inspirational instead of Conqueror so you can drop enlightened and get a better base for a ring to help cap resists now that we don't have Harvest. Plus i like that it give the movement speed and increased effect for Pride,Blood and sand and Flesh and stone.

Yea absolutely, I went with Conqueror because the 'Reduced damage taken' is very strong but Inspirational is great also.
