[3.12] Hasunic's ED/C CI Trickster | Glancing Blows | Leaguestarter | Ailment Immunity | 1H + Shield

Just wanted to say thank you again. Just got the ES on block shield up and the build is amazing; never had survivability like this. (ES 8.3k) DPS is only 400k but increases are locked behind getting more harvest augment crafts + finding a large cluster now; looking forward to seeing it really take off once I find those.
That's pretty nice! I looked your gear over, and it's actually what to expect after like 2-4 days from a leaguestart, so it gives a pretty nice showcase of what the build can do very early in league.

ED/Contagion is very new to me, so I thought I would level up a test character before the new league starts. Assume I have zero familiarity with stuff that's probably obvious to you.

I'm a bit unsure as to what defenses I'm supposed to have at level 38+. Sure, I have very high dps, but I'm not one-shotting bosses, and so die fairly easily to, e.g., Shavronne.

I do have smoke mine on my spell bar, but I have never seen it do anything. I.e., I'll cast it, even under the feet of a boss, and nothing happens.

Apparently the boss tactic is to hit it with despair, then spam Frenzy, while flame dashing around avoiding getting smashed to death. When the life potions are empty, then, well, my life ends.

I'm guessing I'm not getting any leech at all here. I also had to take a +8% mana node to have enough mana left to even cast Despair (that happened right after I got GMP in.)

Am I missing something here?
You can use lmp if you don't have enough mana for your reservation.

Seems like you are quite new to the game.

Make sure to get resistance on your gear and life as possible.

You don't leech, but your ED increases your life regeneration, as I explained in the guide.

You move with the smoke mine, so you throw it far away from you and detonate with d, like you would any other mine. It then blinks you to the area, makes smoke (which blinds monsters) and gives you a movement speed buff.

Don't worry to much about using smoke mine, if you are new. It's mostly to speed run the content, but if you are already having issues with bosses in act4, then it does not matter.

In boss fights, just run counter clockwise or clockwise while shooting frenzy at the boss. Remember to keep them curses with despair for extra damage.

Take the boss killing time to learn their mechanics. Leveling through the story mode is also to learn attack patterns, so you can easier adapt to attack patterns in lategame where they will just straight out kill you, if they hit you.

1. Understood I can use LMP instead of burning 1 passive to get the mana I needed. My point was intended to be that most players might run into the same issue.

2. Ah, I missed that part of the Essence Drain mechanic. So I do have a potential issue facing a boss since there's only one mob to ED from. Hmm.

3. Really? OK, GGG did a bad thing calling smoke mine a mine. Mines, to me, blow up when you step on them! It should have been called a smoke bomb... that explains a lot.

4. I'm not new to the game, but I have focused all of my characters on the same build in the last few leagues (whispering ice.) So I have zero experience what the rest of the classes play like.

Are you saying that, at the high end, say red maps, I'm still going to need to dodge everything? At what point (CI?) do the layered defenses kick in effectively so you can pretty much take nearly all hits? (Looking at your posted videos, you hardly ever get hit. That's not going to be true for me...)

By the way, thanks a lot for posting that Twitch levelling video. I'm going to study it closely. It's clear I do a lot of things that waste time that you don't.

Depending on how hard you push / challenging content, you will always have to take care untill you have high enough ehp imo.
GGG changed mine mechanics alot of league ago, making you able to throw and not lay them, which buffed smoke mine alot.

You don't have to dodge everything, especially not when you get block, but there are one shot mechanics that need to be avoided until you have enough defences to take a hit. That's just the way poe is designed.

I'm glad they help :) I can also recommend watching tytykiller om twitch if you realy want to improve your speed running

Feeling pretty good about gear and skills. Need to pick up a little Dex so I can drop a dex node. But otherwise happy with gear.

Anyone see anything sticking out I should grind and upgrade for? I just bought the better shield shield last night, and think I actually got a pretty good deal on it.

Considering how easy it is to use harvest crafts to make a +1intelligence amulet into a +2 amulet that would probably be what I wanted to do.

I've tested this in HC after i got the oldschool ed+cont Trickster to 98 in Softcore and i must say, the spellslinger is SO MUCH smoother...but like you said you might have to migrate late to do endgame without much hussle - you can check my gear

And Soulrend takes care of the golden mobs and bosses, i played the original one without it and every fight was longer :D

I only got to act 7 when i decided i wanted to check if i can facetank that boss :D it was end of league so i wasnt playing seriously anyway...you cant xD

But on normal playstyle hc was very comfortable and the switch to spellslinger in act 3 a revelation!

Gearwise this league was awesome, i never had that good gear and im pretty sure i never will xD getting -9 chaos resi on the helm is super simple, getting +1 chaos too. My char is public if anyone want to check gear, it's a bit different from this build and im kinda proud about the gloves ^^
