When everybody has classified most Melee attacks as ranged, and then correct anybody that says somebody did something as a Melee character, then yes playing as Melee is pretty much near impossible because nobody will consider you one.

u can brain afk as ranged and still do fine all u need is to keep more than 1 screen distance
all semi successful "melee" builds in this game use some kind of ranged attack, only reason why nugi survived so long was the fact he abused increased aoe passives to kite monsters with his half screen cleave range, when u fight in close combat as normal melee would u will get raped by some nasty mob sooner or later

All I was saying is that Nugi didn't die because he was melee, but because he was not paying attention.

Heavy Strike, Dual Strike, Double Strike, Glacial Hammer, etc are "melee" skills...
Ground Slam, Lightning Strike, Cleave+AoE, Leap Slam Kite, and probably this new Cyclone+AoE are not "melee"...
They're basically semi-ranged... And the reason it's becoming more and more popular is, people WANT to play "melee", but you can't melee in this game with how absurdly stupid armor's damage reduction is. It's too dangerous, hence they're taking "melee-ish" skills and turning them into full blown ranged skills.
Now how many pure Heavy or Double Strike builds you see? None... Sure you've done it midway through Cruel.
It's not because they do no damage, hell Heavy and Double can hit like a truck, it's just when you run in with your Semi to roll over some mobs, a 747 filled with "white mobs" destroy you in 2 seconds and they're just the "toothpicks" according to GGG's "armor formula".

All I was saying is that Nugi didn't die because he was melee, but because he was not paying attention.
tbh his build was squishy as fk, im surprised he survived that long, i dont think EB melee is that good (atleast for close combat) u waste too many points to get it and are at the opposite side of tree where all the crucial melee keystones/passives are
