Projectiles deal 40% less damage at gem level 1, and 30% less damage (from 40%) at gem level 20.
Thing is, the total projectile count (without Grelwood Shank; talking about the usual MS builds here) before was 12, iirc, and is now 9.
Balls now deal 30% less damage.
This makes the total of (theoretical) projectile damage: 630% of base damage. Before it was: 720%.
So, you lose 90%, which is a total nerf of 12.5% less damage.
Wow, what a tragedy. But that's not all.
Thing is, Molten Strike increases the spread with additional projectiles, but since you are now having overall fewer projectiles, the spread is less, thus making it better for single target.
This was actually a clever "nerf".
They want to prevent you from spamming the entire screen with projectiles with AC.
Two things result from this:
Grelwood Shank and Dying Sun will rise in price.
I'd say the MS enchant is still valuable, perhaps even more needed than before.
Either way, Molten Strike is still OP and they only try to force a little shift from Life on Hit + AC shenanigans (not that this would really change much here).
You forgot that it received base damage buff as well (147% - 161%). Also the damage reduction part might go down to 29% at gem level 21. Assuming that you get a free jewel slot thanks to wildfire change - the damage is actually the same, or slightly higher. Clear speed will be worse though

Finally someone who gets it. We also have to factor in, that not all of your 13 balls (freak) were being slapped in the face of the boss you were trying to ball-slap. Unless you were hitting the fattest of the lot, a lot of the balls were unused.

Hard to say how this one pans out, i'd say it was fairly even you've lost 3 projectiles, but the projectiles do more and losing a wildfire while it looks terrible actually increases the odds the rest of the balls will hit your single target.
I'd hazard a guess at a slight nerf, but probably nothing like it actually deserved lol

im not sure is it nerf overall.
u get additional about 30% MORE dmg from gem
if u dont use grels than projectile number change from 12 to 9 (9*1,3=11,7)
if u use grels than from 14 to 11 (11*1,3=14,3)
and u get additional jewel which will give u about 5% dmg.
so if You dont use grels than dmg before patch and after is similar, and for builds with grels dmg is bigger than before patch.
soooo u have similar or bigger dmg with no lags. hmmmm looks nice? no no lets complain without any numbers. ggg banhammer so bad.

We will see. Got very powerful, self designed molten strike ascendant, without statsticks and grels, Uber Elder viable. I will do some adjustment, take off one Wildfire, add some really nice jewel instead, replace 3 projectile lightpoacher with 2 projectile version and... to Uber Elder I will go. If he goes down, nerf is ok. If not - they destroyed another skill again.

Also where did I say Grelwood's is expensive? You're reading comp that bad you misunderstood? Not my fault. I meant in the future genius. Stop attacking me man, it's getting old :)
*your
You literally did. Perhaps you should reconsider how you phrase sentences (in the future, genius). It makes reading and interpreting your comments the correct way a bit harder than it has to be.
And nobody's attacking you, either. I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine. Or am I not allowed to pull the DamageIncorporated™ trick to agitate other commenters?
You're too smart for me champ.
Peace,

@Boem Hahaha I can't get over he's correcting you and the correction is wrong
Made my day that did

ya the gem buff and popular weapons buff adds 30% more damage.
depending how you played the build the projectile nerf isn't really effective. my build has 11 projectiles without the helm enchant. i can still have 11 projectiles (without dying sun) if i now get the helm enchant, but it essentially makes it mandatory.
im more worried about elder guardian specific weapons becoming more rare. i wonder how much more rare they will become. this sounds like it won't bode well for grelwood
dying sun will be a 4 ex item again. with the amount of projectile skills coming and now this MS proj change - yeah it'll be on everyones bar this league.

Nobody cared about melee component of molten strike.
Less projectiles, less projectile damage.
Overall nerf.

Alot slower whirling blades and leapslam aswell, this combined with alot less AOE-clear with molten is a pretty strong nerf. Atleast when it comes to clearing maps, Lab etc.
A geared up juggMS in betreyal will clear like a shitty geared juggMS did in Delve.
Looks fine vs single target however.
Suprised that the fat nerf to wb and leap seems to be ignored tbh, this is a big nerf to lots of build i think.

You're right, and it was unexpected for most players I think. It just got overshadower with the avalanch of nerfs (and other things that aren't nerfs but ppl thinks they are xD)
Feel free to ckeck some skill suggestions:
