London murder rate overtakes New York's

That said? Banning knives isn't going to stop those guys. Unlike firearms, it probably won't even slow them down much; anyone can make a prison shiv

Exactly. The reason why politicians (and media, and academia "intellectuals") are going after the tools of violence, is because that's the easiest target. It's also the false target, a "dust in your eyes" excuse to not have to deal with the real issues, which are much harder to solve and rooted in demographic/social problems.

A rise in stabbings is not due to knives becoming more easy to buy. It's not due to knives becoming more sharp, or longer. There are other social reasons that have nothing to do with the tool used for the violence. You can legislate knives and other tools all you want, but this wont solve problems in a society inclined to violence. You can kill a person with a hammer or a screwdriver, or anything else you find in your toolbox.

Same in USA, where guns (specifically, so called "assault weapons") are used as the easy scapegoat, to make politicians look like they are doing something. While the underlying reasons for mass shootings are much more complex and can't be explained with short one-liners and soundbites.

Cherry-picked stats debunked, thoroughly. Just as I did with the 'plummet in Facebook shares' value signals death of Facebook' thread. Which, of course, also had a cherry-picked stat.

Hum this pose another problem tho, If the BBC on their official webpage post an article
called>

"London murder rate overtakes New York's"

and makes a demonstration about it, then another article a day after of the same BBC website post an article called

"Reality Check: Has London's murder rate overtaken New York's?"
Trying to debunk previous article.

BBC website an official channel from very official British Broadcasting Corporation.

Their journalist do not talk to each other? why posting fake news?

Hey I though fake news was fake news.

In any cases it is nice the PR control team of London Major is now doing everything so London do not loose it s tourist base.

Ho another teen got killed yesterday.

Number 47.

I understand the implication, If another country get higher homicide rate using Knives instead of guns, it look bad for the anti-gun protesters who believe guns are the sole responsible for murders and crazies.

Maybe just maybe the anti guns should attack the medicine groups selling millions of anti-depressors to teens all over the world.

IMO the real killers are white and look like little capsules, state approved and distributed by your health care provider...Not guns or knives.

Should we ban knives now?

Carrying a 3 inch or bigger knife without what police deem to be a legitimate reason has been very illegal in England for a long time, and they can't even sell cutlery knives to people under 18 (but you can join the army at 16).

A 2.5-inch karambit:

I guess this evisceration device is legal then? :P

Also, my screwdriver wants to say hi.

The issue is, and always has been, the fact that murder is already illegal.

The Parkland Thread folks (yes I see you back there, Charan) want to make murder more illegal. They want it to be so illegal that nobody does it anymore. The problem is that murder is already as illegal as it can realistically be. Just about anywhere with laws that are actually obeyed, murder is super illegal and if you're caught doing it you're pretty much done forever.

Some. People. Don't. Care.

You can make murder as illegal as is humanly possible. Ban weapons and tools both - make repairmen require taser-armed police escorts for their work, make hardware stores illegal, force everyone in the country to live in padded houses that can only be serviced by people who've undergone more vetting that a Navy SEAL. Remove everything you possibly can that one man could use to harm another.

People will still fucking kill each other. With their bare goddamned hands if they have to. Shit, some people do it that way out of sheer preference already.

The species is violent. Nature is violent. We can tame it as much as possible, but we can't eliminate it. You cannot make murder any more illegal than it already is, and you can't make a certain subset of criminals give more of a shit about the illegality of murder than they do.

London's suffering a murder spike. Sucks to be London right now (not that it doesn't ever not suck to be London HUEH HUEH HUEH), and I have no doubt this is a spike and not a trend, but nevertheless. The U.K., and the EU in general, have never been able to figure out that you can't legislate mind control. People will do as they do; as Scrotie's said many, many times, all laws can do is disincentivize people to do specific things. Someone motivated or malfunctioning badly enough is not going to care. The sooner the U.K. figures that out and stops making everything that ever is, was, or will be illegal in the name of Reducing The Murder(TM), the sooner it will stop being a shit place to live.

Bernard goetz made the filed-down screwdriver famous in the 1980s in the NYC subways. Actually, most tools have practical use as a weapon. The humble straight-claw hammer. Not only can you build houses with it, but you can really do so.e damage to the human body with either side of the business end.

Might have to double check the stats, but NYC are basically pikers when it comes.es to murder. Detroit, Baltimore, and Cleveland tend to be strong finishers for the top spot year after year. Washington DC used to be number one with a bullet (pun intended) for the longest time, but I guess they killed too many people to sustain those numbers. that, and there are many more interesting g things to do in NYC besides mindless murder.
