Why hide itemlevel (not req. itemlevel) ???

No it's not and devs said this themselves.

Ilvl is actually a very important part of the game and it should be just as visible as any stat is.

not saying that it isnt and it shouldnt, I for one would like ilvl to be similar to D3 where its on the item right up front.

But if the devs havent put it in, they must have a reason for it. I feel it might take away from the game and make it more about numbers than feel.

I had no idea items even had an item level for mods which was different to you level and the map level and the item's use level and the monster's level on the zone's Monster level, where was I...? Damn, forgotton now.

More about numbers? Ilvl doesn't introduce math. It lets you know what affixes and sockets you can get. If you are crafting you need to know the ilvl just as much as you need to be able to see the links between sockets. Image if you had to pick up the item and type /links to be able to see the links between sockets.
They should make it so if you hover over ANY item and hit Alt like in trade, it shoes itemlevel

It introduces more screen clutter when hovering over items if they begin to place more information on a basic hover. I like the way it is now.

They should put it in the option section so you could turn it off and on, if it introduces more screen clutter when hovering over you could just simply turn it off.
This way everyone will be happy! =D
Thou shalt not guard.
IMO, the ilvl should be listed on the read out description. Not only during trade via ALT. Its an important piece of information, and shouldnt be hidden from view.
GGG - Why you no?

Pretty sure item level is based on the level of the map.
Magic ( blue ) monsters have +1 lvl.
Rare ( yellow ) and unique ( orange ) monsters have +2 lvl.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
