My most serious recommendation would be to play the Abyss league in HC when 3.1 comes out. Trading will be super easy using poe.trade, you will be able to deck out a character and hit 90 within a few weeks.

Ha ha - if only I had the time. My first serious attempt at a challenge league was Essence, I played every possible moment for the entire league. I ended up in tier 6 maps, around level 78 or so, with about 19 or 20 challenges done. But I get the point - HC in Abyss will be easier trading, and afterwards the stuff migrates to the permanent HC league.

What did Zrevnur mean by my lacking knowledge or understanding of the game? How does my character's gear indicate that??

It was my "impression" - not hard proof. Not sure I can explain it properly:

Your gear - including sockets/links - did not look (to me) properly optimized/min-maxed the way an experienced player would min-max it.

Example: Many players will (during early leveling) pick items (gloves & helm esp) just due to their links/sockets. And then fill these sockets in the most efficient manner available.

Similar your passive tree. Your "being scared" (referencing the topic title) doesnt match with your passive tree at all. The usual recommendation (for HC) is that you get lots life on the passive first and spec into crit later. I am not aware of 'usual recommendation' for dodge but I wouldnt put in 5 points at this stage either. Some builds/players never put in more than one point. Mind these are individual details of the whole picture.

Knowing which choices to make to improve your odds to beat it. In addition to the other comments in this thread: You characterized yourself in a certain way ("not a good PoE player") but the build you make is at odds with this as it is too squishy for a "not good" player - at least in its current form.
No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

Thank you, that's a good explanation. So there are a couple of pieces of info that help explain what you observed: one is that I've played a lot of softcore (and I'm a long-time ARPG player, if anyone can remember the Temple of Apshai on the Atari 2600...) so I've almost certainly optimised the wrong things in my HC build. The only experience I have with permadeath is Angband, which has far fewer choices to think about.

Another is that I wanted to get the Specialist achievement, hence the points in Acrobatics and Arrow Dancing and Point Blank - I would have left those until much later in an optimised HC build.

The final one is that most of the lower-level characters were created and played by my six-year-old son, hence their rather bizarre gear and gem loadouts!

I have more recently started following build guides from here, having spent the first few years footling around more casually. But I am going to need to trade to get the right endgame gear...

Ho hum. I'm going to take the advice to play HC in Abyss and see how far I get. I got three more achievements last night (Imperfections, Invested With Blood and Behold My Army) so I now have very few left that aren't HC or endgame (Overcharged is about the only one).

Thanks again all.
If you have minimum 1800 HP you should be fine. My personal minimum at Kitava is 1500 HP but it dont feel safe.^^
I think the biggest help in Kitava Fight is a Decoy Totem. If you just hold this Totem active over the complete fight u wont have a Problem. GL :)
