So here is something odd tha happened. I changed my password on here to my normal yahoo password (stupid I know) and I shit you not. 30 minutes later I'm getting calls from friends telling me that. Am spamming their in boxes with emails and download this buttons. I sent out an email from my live.com addy and told them not to open anything from my yahoo email.

It is VERY odd that the only variable that changed was me changing my password in forums to match my yahoo password and this happens. I am sold that there is some kind of security compromise on GGGs end. I changed my password n the first place to avoid hackers. I am so scared to look n my stash. Not going to log in tonight. I just have a feeling I will get mad.

I belive, "d1ck head" you can overload any pop mail service. they did with master card site some time ago.

So wait a minute - you're telling me that you did what GGG tells you clearly not to do (use a password from your other sites) and now you're blaming GGG?

Do not ever use the same password for multiple sites, You see in aklot of cases these people are not hacking your games or email addys, they already have them. . Use pass phrases instead of passwords and use different ones for each and every account you have.


I used to have severe problems with Aion, Wow and GW2 until I read the article posted by a GW2 dev and took his advice. No problems since.

As i have said, in most cases they already have your email address and if you use the same password or some variation of it then they will get that sooner or later.

First attemnt:
Dummy@hotmail.com PW: domino
Dummy1@hotmail.com PW: domino1 etc

They already have all your info from elsewhere just not the right combination and they can simply slam the POE servers until they hit it.

Pass phrases not passwords separate for each account and heck separate emails for every game you have.

Dude, it's kinda hard having a discussion if you keep writing in whatever crazy foreign language it is you're using.

If anything, this supports what GGG said was a major issue: bad password policies from users.

It's an issue in many games and internet services, not only PoE. Again, I work with this, and I know how huge a problem such simple things can be (password policies, "inoffensive" malware, browser plug-ins that pop things out of nowhere, and so on).

As for the number of people who got hacked, I completely agree with you this was not an issue in CB. But now in OB, the number was high. In february there was a specific day with lots of hacking, people say near a hundred, but we just can't be sure. What probably happened (and is happening) is that this group that is stealing people's pw, is saving the opportunity to steal from them for the right moment. They didn't want this (*what's happening in forums and in GGG, changing game security and alerting everyone of the problem*), they wanted a low profile so people wouldn't care anymore and then a few weeks or months later they strike again (they probably will) in a medium/large scale. That's how they work.

They also can't steal from everyone, or even from a majority of players, because it is a real economy. If they steal too much, they will affect the currency of what they stole and make it worth less, then it will also sell for less (the people advertising sites for item trading ingame are connected to this hacking).

Anyway, I intend to help in the ways I can and I give my full support to GGG.
