Other gamers have been hacked before + overall support to GGG!

I started playing this game a year ago. I haven't played non stop, but I recently reinstalled the game to check out new content. I was absolutely impressed by how the game had evolved, many issues dealt with, and how everything that was already good was simply better.

I was really sad by the huge amount of hacking that happened these last days. As someone who has been playing online games for 15 years, I have great sympathy for the gamers that lost their chars and currency.

But I do feel some things MUST be pointed on this regard:

Spoiler

First of all, many other gaming networks and gamers have been hacked before. That includes PSN and Blizzard. In both cases, it was a direct company fault that lead to the attacks. In PoE's case, as far as everyone is told and the scenario presents itself, it was not a direct fault (lack of proper security maybe, but not database security breach). Also, hundreds of gamers get hacked by external programs/sites in those games as well, just search the web.

Secondly, this is a game. Not only it is a game, but a free, independent game that is currently in BETA. Again, this is a FREE game in BETA!

Thirdly, GGG has shown great support and help concerning this, IN THE WAYS THEY CAN. Again, this is an inpendent, small company, trying VERY HARD to deliver a great game and make our gaming experience awesome. Please don't expect someone to call you in your home phone and offer a credit card refund, because this is very far from the case (specially because they didn't charge you on your card in the first place!).

So I really don't agree with all the hate towards GGG that is coming from those gamers. Many players that publicly thanked GGG for this great game are now hating and criticizing the company. This is simply wrong.

You have the right to be mad and even quit the game, but please consider all aspects of the problem before saying something you may regret.

Finally, I work with computers and software programming (13 year career), and I for one can attest that this DOES NOT SEEM like a database hacking attack, it has all the characteristics of an external attack, with multiple reports that a great number of those that got hacked had used external programs (hacks or not) related to PoE, accessed PoE related sites with parts of the login info and/or shared their login info with other games. Those very few that don't fit this scenario do have an explanation to their case, even if nobody knows them yet. A spyware program, lack of proper firewall/security leading to config file breach, and so on.

This was not done by some nerd trying out hacking habilities, it was done by some very organized group that probably has hacked many games before and that is supported, in the end, by the very gamers that spend money to buy their stolen goods or use their hacks. Please consider this.

I'm sure GGG will work on the security of the game and continue to improve it. But I would like to, above all, show my complete support to the game and to GGG's efforts. I will continue playing the game and have 100% trust that GGG will do what's best for the gaming community, including trying to track down those that stole the goods.

I for one LOVE PoE and GGG.

Thank you.

F2P is just like B2P/P2P, a method that companies decide to use for their product. There are both pros and cons just like the other two "payment" methods. Why do you feel the need to state this in every sentence?

A game being F2P does not mean anything for me, they still get paid in the end. Opinions are opinions, I'll take my leave.

What you don't understand is the difference between company sizes and how they get their income.
Gameforge for example got f2p games. Most of them are p2w.
Gameforge got MANY games, most of them p2w.
GGG got only 1 game, not p2w, and with very good quality that many people can compare the gameplay to Diablo.

They decided to offer a free, really good game and only accepts support by selling cosmetic items. This mean that noone is forced to buy anything,so they play it completely free. Not many games offered something like that. There was always a side note, like experience boosters etc.
They need our support. We need their game.

what you dont understand is that regardless of Pay2Win or pay for cosmetics, F2P, much like P2P, is essentially a business strategy with the goal of generating maximum profitability. F2P Games like LoL, TF2 and DOTA2 (TF2 and DOTA are purely cosmetic) make a ton of money and the game industry has been shifting over to F2P because they find it can actually be far more profitable than P2P. With that in mind thinking a company is somehow deserving of extra appreciation for being F2P is just absurd.
I don't disagree with the concept behind p2w and f2p beying strategic decisions. But you have to consider the fact that it is a small company, with limited resources. It's not a company that got big and wealthy then released a F2P as a commercial strategy.

Furthermore, you also need to consider that, as a rule, the more you pay the more you can expect in specific things (support and infrastructure included). Let's take Google as an example. Google has plenty of services for the general public, for free. But if you use a free gmail account, google's search engine and GTalk, and you ever need to use Google's support, good luck with that. Good luck creating a support ticket or making a suggestion. If, however, you use Google Apps with a paid, corporate account, you have access to better support, infrastructure and quality of services. Not as good as Microsoft, that focuses on larger coorporations, but still good. So there's a difference.

Not really sure this is all related to my original post, but both facts are true and should be considered in any related discussion: the game is FREE and independant. And GGG is doing a really good job improving the game and supporting the community, even through crisis. They are actually exceeding themselves all the time, and should have our support and appreciation.

Thanks.
This is a gold seller problem they are hacking and they are trolling the game.

Low the Prices dude!!
I have never understood how people say "a lot of hacking". Do we really honestly know how many people did get hacked? This is a forum with who knows how many people posting. I have seen maybe half a dozen posts saying they got hacked. Do we know they actually got hacked?

I have been playing since CB and have never gotten hacked. Ever. Actually come to think of it, has anyone in CB gotten hacked?

Why did it happen all of the sudden, when OB started? Simple. More people in the game = more probability that a percentage of those people will do something dumb. People do dumb things. They won't admit it (or know it), but they do.
