The funny thing I don't get is that user complains they played a week and didn't get what they want, but substitutes a method that requires months of grinding as an alternative.
This has no merit because months of grinding was not yet spent by the OP on the current method implemented in THIS game to prove otherwise.
You don't understand the issue.
The problem is not that you don't get what you want fast enough. The problem is that you can spend weeks or months and still not be closer to getting what you want.
I don't know if it really fits into my style of play, perhaps that is why I don't understand. I don't really see the point in grinding end game gear in this game, because there really isn't any endgame anyway.
Do you have proof of this? Have you played for months and not moved an inch in gear level?
In my opinion a game like this really doesn't have an endgame, the endgame is the game, playing through on Hardcore can give you a better feeling of accomplishment though I will say that much... more about the progression of leveling and persisting. While I'd love for everyone to be happy, and I imagine so would GGG, it's impossible to appease everyone.

No, you don't understand because you are not reading carefully enough. You are jumping to conclusions that are void of any logic.
It has nothing to do with playstyles.

In a random system like this you are not ever guaranteed to get better gear.
Not improving any gear for months is ofcourse extremely unlikely, but it's theoretically possible.

At the end of a week of grinding in a system like the one I mentioned - Lord of the Rings Online - I don't have a perfect item, or even a chance at one. What I DO have is an item which is marginally better than the one I had last week. That is motivating for me! It drives me to play for another week, spend more money on the game, etc.
I'm almost positive I read somewhere that GGG doesn't want players to realize how far of a progression grind they have ahead of them.
So what you and I enjoy, incremental progression, they are against- and instead want a system where every "crafting" session from the very start you have a small chance of creating your endgame item.

As I REPEATEDLY said, I don't think I - or anyone else - should have easy access to "the item of my dreams".
Didn't you follow the thread?
Your proposal = MMO
MMO = easy access to the item of your dreams
Therefor: Your proposal = easy access to the item of your dreams.
I love this forum!

this is a beta, and now is the moment to tell the designers what things are ok and what things should change. Of course they must take the correct decision about our ideas, by the way if no one gives ideas/options and everybody leave the game, we're not going anywhere...

Should players be guarunteed to get better gear? Were you ever guarunteed to get better gear in the old greats of HnS? (Thinking Diablo here personally)
I don't think those games played that way, so why should this one play that way? I honestly think their crafting system is great, because they could have very well released the game with some other form of crafting that doesn't let you mess with the RNG of items at all, and then we'd all just be grinding for drops just like any other game. It seems as if the introduction of orbs and playing with the RNG of items has introduced this feeling of self entitlement to people if they put in X hours and I don't believe that this is how it should work. Lucky is as lucky does.
I just don't agree that they should cater to this kind of play, at some point in this game you come to the end (when you outlevel the content). I get that you guys want more, but you'll just have to wait and see what they decide on, I wouldn't hold your breath too much though at this point.

If you grind a week you should be closer to getting what you want than you were before.

Because time is a finite resource in short supply to most human beings?
