Wrong. I am not happy with my character mate.

I play CI because I had to work so much this league (that's why I'm still only at 18) and struggling with a life build would make it even worse.

That said, I don't WANT to play CI. It's just by far the best option for endgame right now.

I love this game, I am only here to share my insight and thoughts about this massive, hamfisted nerf. As a Hardcore player with thousands of hours played, I spend a ton of time theory crafting and experimenting in Path of Building.

In Hardcore, you have three options:
  • Reliably defend yourself.
  • Skip the content.
  • Die.

In beta, we are going to see a lot more HC deaths of ES characters. And a LOT more content will be moved into SKIP OR DIE territory. For example, we currently skip Invasion bosses in higher tier maps because they can easily one shot you. More map mods are SKIP OR DIE in Hardcore by design, as Standard character need not worry about dying. This nerf shovels oodles of content into this "Skip or RIP" pile for Hardcore characters, in addition to killing them while they discover what to skip.

Have you ever played a build, gotten to a certain map tier and discovered that your build couldn't surpass it? Think about all of the ES builds that will be stuck at T8 maps and below, simply because they can't reliably take hits, or take hits and reliably leech/regen/regenerate/heal/flask back enough of it before the next hit.

Running T15 maps with double Beyond of the Call/Circle, with full sextant mods, was really fun, and I honestly can't imagine any hardcore ES build doing this safely any more, with less ES AND without Vaal Pact. I still RIP'd this league to >10,000 damage one-shots, by the way, and so have MANY others on the ladder.

Honestly, I like the idea of reworking Vaal Pact. I think it would make perfect sense to invest passive points, or affixes on gear into Leech Rate, if it worked for ES as it does Life. but just "No more vaal pact for ES" is not a fix at all.

Even if you're a kaom-happy life only builder that has resented ES builds for always dwarfing your HP pool, it is absolutely undeniable: The ES nerf and Vaal Pact ES nerf are BOTH hamfisted, and the fact that they are both nerfed along with Ghost Reaver is a lot. Let's also not forget about Low Life, guys, they're ES based too.




Here are some better nerf ideas, GGG. to keep this productive. (if theres any hope that GGG even reads this)

When used with Ghost Reaver:
  • Vaal Pact also removes ES Recharge
  • Vaal Pact leeches 50% less
  • Vaal Pact allows only 25% of the leech amount to recover instantly
  • Vaal Pact only activates for 2 seconds after a savage hit
  • Vaal Pact allows Life Leech Rate to apply to ES
  • Vaal Pact increases Leech Rate instead of Instant, with an additional increased modifier for Low Life or after a savage hit
  • Vaal Pact removes Chaos Resistance from CI but damage does not bypass ES (when used with CI only, because low life can only ever go Shavs, ONLY! lol)
  • Vaal Pact makes you take 10% more damage

just some ideas. any of these or a combination of them would be so much better than "No Vaal Pact for ES!". And with your overall ES nerf on top of it... I'm looking at converting my HC builds to life, and it sucks. Coming from the right side of the tree (Witch, Shadow, Ranger), you have to sacrifice ALL damage nodes just to reach 180% increased life.

Hardcore-only players quit when they RIP enough times. It happens in every guild I've been in, and with the whole friends list. Some of us stick around and re-roll again and again, but toward the late middle/end of the league, everyone dead is done. You already accomplish killing the HC characters, GGG. I can see everyone being forced into Marauder/Duelist because anything that relies on ES (aside from Aegis) just won't cut it, defensively. It's life meta now, baby. As an aside.. cheap AF ES gear on HC! Buyer's market because nobody wants to play that shit.

came back after a long break from Poe.....see balance as a title.....well i'm disappointed to say the least.

the whole reason to even go CI was to lower the chances of you getting instantly killed, because 9000 life is NOT enough. instead of buffing life to make it reasonable to play, you nerf CI which was already HARD to get into the 9-10k mark, let alone 15-20k unless you have 100 exalts sitting around.

you should fire who ever came up with these "balances" changes and find someone who knows what balance really is. dying is not a fun part of any game, especially when it's not YOUR fault. e.g boss has instant kill and you don't know about, which is 90% of the bosses in the game.......throwing hours into a character only to have it die in some stupid way is such a terrible feeling, it's why i stopped playing HC. to gear your character you need to have res all every single piece of gear, life/ES, and if your lucky a damage stat. this is the problem with the game, gearing. the gear you NEED is not the gear you WANT. you NEED 9k life end game, otherwise trash instant kills you. you NEED many exalts to even reach that life pool with max res, AND have the damage to do end game.



anyway ill look again in another 6 months and hope the game is actually balanced and playable without getting one shot by random arrows flying across the screen. although i don't expect that to happen, nor do i expect anyone to even read what i said fully. i like Poe but the balance issues are as bad as when Diablo 3 launched.....except they fixed that, kind of, well they made it playable......
Pretty happy will these changes, will wait to see what is going out from the Beta.

Btw, i feel like Beta is running for 5 years, so... :)
So many changes and rework of the game because it is hard to balance when introducing so many stuff and additional content at every patch. By the way, this content also allows us to stay in the game ! Be a bit positive !

Just some constructive remarks about the next content of the 3.0:

- vaal pact killed for ES is not good at all. How to deal with reflects even if some changes are done with reflect ? It is really a huge nerf of ES and will kill many builds. Hope it wil be changed or mitigated during the beta

- didn't see anything about performance of the game. Servers / interactions with servers / game engine are still a pity and I am afraid of the new graphic content incoming. May be think about an option to deactivate for example skill animations of other players when playing in party

- any possibility to improve trading one day ? It is a long time we ask for something to be introduced in the game. Using macros for that is a pity and I am bored with whisping tons of people just to get one item.

it obviously is the best defense of those, but that seems to be because there are no diminishing returns whatsoever on ES while there are on AR/EV.
introducing diminishing returns for ES seems to make more sense to bring it more in line with AR/EV. better yet though i would like to see some adjustments to AR/EV that make them more appealing.
in general ES seems just so much better because mob damage just doesnt feel balanced at all,
they either do no damage or just one-shot you.
vaal pact feels like the worse offender here since it mitigates practicaly every small hit, which in turn gives the game the need to have those huge hits to not have vaal pact be a god mode.

I don't know why ES is such a problem for GGG when same can be said about Life builds regenerating life; 7-8k life can be equivalent to 14 or 16k ES and also use of flasks. If GGG wants to make the game fair & better I think nerf life regen builds too and than c how other half (obviously unaffected by ES manifesto) feel about that!
guys, the whole game is getting rebalanced. ggg could take the blizzard approach and buff everything ci/life/monsters and soon we would all have 4,8 million es/hp. sounds nice, right?
wait for the beta first and then wait for the release.

i bet 90%+ of you [Removed by Support] are playing softcore anyway. so shut the fuck up and let the devs handle it. this game will get more popular with 3.0 no doubt about it.

Because those builds are beyond broken and even if you nerfed them by 50% in everything, they'd still kill Shaper AFK.

Seriously, defending HOWA is not what you want to do.
