I didn't know about the cage thing until my friend put me in a cage for a joke (he let me out; it wasn't kinky or anything like that). I'm never annoying so I don't have to worry.

Blink arrow can free you from the cages, however, if you put Divider/barricade deco around them (gotta do it tightly with no gaps), they are stuck and there ain't shit they can do except /hideout or logout.

Looks to me like the player was new and did not know how to trade. Remember, a player must hover over the item, did he know that?
Maybe he also didn´t speak English that well, I had these things a lot during Diablo days. Some people just don´t know more than a line or two! This guy did not insult or harass you, he was just lost in translation. :) |

Maybe they were just AFK?
If you send a trade request, there's a timeout timer of I believe 30 seconds after which the player automatically "declines". They don't actually press decline though. Since the person wasn't responding to whispers either and was still there after 30 mins... well, mystery solved, I think.
