What is "Insanity" in the 2.3.2 Patch Notes and is it possibly related to these?

You'll find the mention of 'insanity' in the 'General Balance' section here - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1703209

There's been some discussion of it on the forums and on Reddit, during which these two bits of tantalizing info cropped up -

In the Reddit thread, Chris also says, "What if I told you that Insanity was already in the game for some time and the community hadn't worked it out yet?
(There are plenty of teasers, but this one isn't actually one)"

as well as "Some things are hidden because they're fun for the community to find. This is not an important gameplay mechanic."

So...any guesses, ppl? With good sources/arguments, please. Or any additional info for us to ponder over?

I deliberately left that thread out. Mainly cos it was useless.

This thread is meant to be for serious speculation on what Insanity is, not idle rants and jokes.

Seventh thread? Where's the other 5? Besides, the mystery remains unsolved and all the other threads have either died or devolved into shitposting fests.

Also, I've been through them and picked out the tidbits of info that seem like they have some potential and put them together here in the hopes that this thread can actually make some headway on the issue.
