So just like IRL, anyone can run, but only if they're rich. You can promise the community anything and don't have to deliver. Candidates get to talk out of their ass even more than ususal. And finally, people can start a populist movement by pooling their resources to get their grassroots candidate in the running (and almost certainly lose in the end).
