Number of traps

I want to see more traps, I remember 1 shotting a witch in PVP with my Bear Trap.
I didn't even know it does damage, when I checked it does 800-1200 damage ._.

I made a claw/trap shadow trying to be like my WW claw sin from d2 and was majorly disappointed when I found out there is only 3 trap keystones and they are trash :/

There's the trap support gem that enables you to set up a trap that casts a skill when triggered. Haven't got one yet, but sounds promissing.

Three trap keystones? I'm guessing you mean passives, but there's actually 6 of them. There's two groups of 3; one is a little NE of Shadow starting point, the other is in the NE corner of the center area.

My build also utilizes totems, some of which work identically to some of the Assassin traps from D2. For example, a Flame Totem is the same thing as the Wake of Fire trap.

Granted, you can currently only have a maximum of 4 traps (if you take the +1 passive) and 2 totems (if you take the +1 keystone Ancestral Bond), but each trap/totem can be made more damaging/useful by the addition of support gems.

Anyways, I'd recommend trying out totems with your traps if you want to play something like the D2 Assassin.

Yeah, it's awesome. I have mine attached to a Decoy Totem right now. I can drop it on my escape path before I even engage a group of enemies, and it ensures I have no chance of being followed if I need to leave the fight.

I played w/ fire trap a while ago but got bored w/ the cool down time, but it was *very* effective, if your patient.

I use 4 fire trap gems. its awesome.

Locking down 4 out of 8 skill slots just for an extra trap is really REALLY silly imo.

In your opinion. In my opinion its the bomb diggity. I dont need the other slots for my build. so. Its a good option for me. Since my build is almost based around fire traps in general. I could probably take off one. But with 4 i can throws traps forever. basically one is always off cooldown.

Then what's the point of the passive? It's redundant.

It's for trap users. The passive is incredibly useful if you have at least 2 trap gems. They don't need to all be fire trap; that's just one option. If you only have 1 trap gem, then you shouldn't be getting trap-related passives in the first place. It's a waste.

I'm not sure why anyone would think it's an oversight. The passive is supposed to let you have 4 traps placed at the same time, and it does that. Having it increase all your trap gems to a max of 4 instead of 3 would be pretty broken; it would not only increase your maximum damage (as it already does), but it'd then be increasing your DPS as well by +33%.

If you don't have at least 2 trap gems, you shouldn't be considering these passives. As someone who primarily runs traps, I can safely say the +1 trap passive is already the best single passive on the entire skill tree for my build.

Basically, not increasing the maximum traps is an intentional design. Since they plan on expanding the skill tree further in the future, I wouldn't be surprised if they add another trap cluster that includes a "+1 maximum trap capacity". Just don't expect it to be included with, or anywhere near, a "+1 number of traps" passive.

From my personal experience using traps, having 3 or more traps laid on the screen at the same time is really just using your traps inefficiently.
^ yeah you dont need to play like that. I might throw 3 down. walk through a chokepoint then pull enemies back into the big boom. But other than that i get my totem to tank for me and i just go to town on the traps. I just throw trap after trap ONTO the opponent. I think its Amazing.
