1000ms ping for most instances starting from mid Jan (used to be 50ms)

Starting from Jan 18 I have been having very strange latency problems. this happens on all the US servers (haven't tested international servers). I have always had excellent ping (50ms or lower) to the US servers until Jan 18. 4 of 5 instances I will have around 1000ms ping. about 1/5 instances will be my normal ping of about 30-40ms. Nothing else is using my network, and POE is the only thing using any bandwidth on the computer.

This does not happen in the wee hours of the morning and when most people are sleeping. I wonder if this problem occurs during peak hours.

I went on some cs:go servers also hosted by softlayer and I also have high ping sometimes on those. I also tried some other cs:go servers that weren't associated with softlayer at the same time and had excellent ping. Softlayer problem mayhaps?

Hey there, I'm very sorry you're having some latency issues. Could you let us know a little bit about the network you're connecting on?:

  • Is it wired or wireless?
  • Do you share it with anyone else who may be using it at the time, or have any programs running that may be doing the same?
  • What gateway do you connect to and do these issues persist when connecting to a different gateway?
  • Could you please confirm for us that your firewall and antivirus are not interfering with Path of Exile's connection? You should be able to test this by temporarily disabling them while playing and seeing if your connection improves.
  • Can you please tell us what type of network you are connecting on? Eg. Home, apartment/hotel, university/dorm.

Also, could you please post the results of a WinMTR report here for us, just so we can see exactly what is happening along the route of your connection to the server/gateway you're connecting to plus any additional gateways that may be close by. You can find a guide on how to run a WinMTR report here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1377789

I only use MSE. it has been disabled. No change noticed. Using my home connection.

For a recording of the issue please see the following Youtube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-KnrIKmLTM

1st part - hideout - constant 33ms ping (US california)
walked into map portal
2nd part - map - constant 1s ping (US california)
went back to hideout via portal
3rd part - hideout - constant 1s ping (US california)
Nothing?

This crazy high ping generally happens from 13:00 to late night each day. Are things running overloaded?

If I play at 03:00 in the morning to 07:00 I get no ping problems - constant 33ms ping.

Here is another winmtr.

Hey there! Unfortunately those WinMTRs you've posted a bit too short for us to see what may be causing the issue.

Please make sure to run the WinMTR while you are experiencing issues in-game, as this will provide us with the most accurate data. Also, please ensure that you run the WinMTR for 300-500 packets (about 5-8 minutes) so that we can get a full picture of what is happening.

Queen of Padlocks
My bad- I should have ran WinMTR for longer as you said.

For the past two days I have not had any latency problems. I don't know why; nothing that I know of has changed. I have been getting 30-40ms throughout the day according to my logs and ingame meter.

Perhaps I am fortunate enough to have one of the few problems that solve themselves. I will be running more tests this weekend.
