Introduce yourself thread :)

Hi everyone, my names Ben I'm 22 YO & I live in Wellington NZ - But you can call me Pelerin.

I primarily play MMORPGs but I've always enjoyed a good action RPG - Diablo was my favorite & recently I've really enjoyed Torchlight.

Path of Exile looks like it's going to be awesome, from the Dark art-style, randomized enviroments & loot etc -

Not to mention the Dev team is from Auckland!

Needless to say I'm excited, nice to meet you all :)

I'm Australian and have been playing PC video games for more years than I'd like to admit. Those that I enjoyed most include several that this game reminds me of, namely the Diablo games, Dungeon Siege games, Sacred, and Divine/Beyond Divinity. The opportunity to play a MMO of the style those games shared is irresistable! :)

My avatar's name? Well, I was playing the newly-released Baldurs Gate when I first registered on an online forum, and used my character's name, given because her appearance reminded me of the heroine of an 1980s German fantasy miniseries. I've used it ever since.

When I like a game, I love it ... I've been happily addicted to Guild Wars for almost five years!

I'm Gaza from Auckland. I'm a compulsive gamer, much to the dismay of my real life.
Hello all. My name is kungfooe and I'm from a small town in the Midwest in the USA. I have been a huuuuuge ARPG fan ever since I started playing D2 (all the way back in high school). It was the first game that I was addicted to. I remember going to bed at 10pm, getting up at 1am to play for several hours and go back to bed between 3am and 4am before going to get up for school at 6:30am. Yeah, addicted. I'm really looking forward to another game that can have that same effect on me (thought I hope to be able to get a bit more sleep than I did back in high school). I've played Sacred, Titan Quest (which was a pretty good substitute), and now Torchlight, but they still don't quite have that same level of satisfaction as D2. I'm hoping PoE fills this gap.

I'm also a big fan of FPS games. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is my drug of choice currently on the FPS front. I'm also enjoyed of Borderlands (good combo of RPG and FPS), Bioshock 1/2, Crysis, L4D1/2, heck, any good game.

Games aside, I'm a huuuuuuuuuge math nerd. I love love love math. I hold a B.A. and a M.A. of Mathematics from Eastern Illinois University and have taught at the high school, community college, and university levels with courses ranging from Statistics and Calculus (traditional and brief/business) to College Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Seeing how math can be applied to so many different areas is one of my favorite things about it (like how to invest for retirement, which is better: no interest financing or 4k off msrp when buying a car, etc.).

I also really find the history of where mathematics came from quite fascinating.
For example, why do we call it algebra? It's because it actually comes from the Arabic word "al-jabr" which translates as algebra and means "reunion." Why would we uses reunion to describe solving for a variable? This is because when they were determining solutions for problems they had to apply transpositions (the equivalent of "what you do to one side of an equation you do to the other") and reductions (the same thing as simplifying an expression or a side of an equation). These processes result in isolating your variable (x typically) and determining its value. Sometimes the word "al-jabr" is translated as "to solve for the unknown" for this reason.
Another example, why we call it "completing the square." It was developed by the Greeks who, when they were solving problems involving this issue (they basically did everything geometrically, not with the types of equations and symbolic manipulation we do nowadays, which has only been around a few hundred years), would physically complete a square so they could determine the solution. Hence the name of part of the method used for solving a quadratic equation.
Basically, if it has anything to do with math, I love it.

Did I mention that I really love math too? Between this and video games, I don't really have time for much else.

The end. La fin.

PULSTAR. That's me. Found out about PoE through a forum I frequent, thought it sounded interesting (also hai free stuffz), so here I am.

Been playing games since the Windows 95 days; started out with Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Starcraft, and the like. Still a big RPG/strategy fan. Just got Starcraft 2, will be getting Diablo 3 when(ever) it comes out (*cough*Blizzard fanboy*cough*), also getting ready to preorder Civ5.

In terms of online gaming, been playing Eve Online for several years now, really love the persistent-world, your-actions-have-lasting-consequences style. Also played a little bit of Guild Wars (waaay back in the dark ages when it first came out).
Arkwright (with apologies to Ronnie Barker). Someone else stole the name back in the days when D2 went on line so I ended up using Coolwright (I was fond of frosty paladins). I wonder how many other gamers ened up with a compromised name for the same reason?

I've been a gamer since the days when people carved their own ICs out of wood. Ahem. Actually my first machine was a VIC 20 if anyone remembers those. Don't know what the first game I got for it was but with a 5K memory (later added a 16K expansion) there were, shall we say, limitations. Could have been Sword of Fargoal, which may explain my gaming path in life :)

Favourites along the way were Doom, Duke Nukem 3D (I see the vapourware DNF title has been picked up by 2K Games), Quake, the Diablo series (3am sessions on a LAN in my basement), Morrowind and a late entry to the Guild Wars world. Anything in the FPS that I can lay my hands on and a smouldering lust for the upcoming D3.

Read about PoE on diablo.incgamers and was blown away to learn it comes from our very own NZ. Looks fabbo, huge thumbs up to the work done on it to date. Looking forward to the beta, fingers crossed :)
I used to be apathetic, now I just don't care.

It's been a while since I've really got into a game of this sort but I'm pretty excited about this one!
Hello guys!
I'm from Viet Nam. As many of you, Diablo 1 & 2 were the very first games I played. I like its old scenes of Middle ages in Europe.
When I saw PoE in the first time, the image of Lord of the Rings came up and I couldn't wait any seconds to search about this game :)
My English is not good but I hope I can learn smt while playing :D
glad to meet all of you.

Hi all.

From GA, USA and keen on the game. Tend to fancy RPGs of most stripes, with Roguelikes at the top of the list. Here's hoping on beta doings and for the game to go the distance.
