Donald Trump
" You realize the huge majority of people call other people hurtful things, and use adult language right? Politicians included. The second senators step off the floor and off the record, it's f-bomb central. Read a biography of LBJ, or read what the Secret Service has had to say about Hillary's language and use of epithets (racist, anti-Semitic, etc). This whole Bannon thing started with the corporatist, hack, in-bed-with Hillary media, whose financial bottom lines are threatened by emerging right wing media, tried to run with the headline 'Bannon is a racist'. When people called bullshit and asked for proof, they couldn't deliver. And they admitted that they couldn't deliver - primarily by not producing any convincing evidence - but also by changing the narrative the next day to 'Bannon is an anti-Semite'. When Jewish groups and individuals who had worked with Bannon for years came out and said 'no, he's actually one of the most pro-Israel/pro-Jewish people ever', the narrative has now, again been changed. This time to the least effective attack of all - 'Bannon uses adult language'. -unrelated- ![]() Last edited by West_GGG#0000 on Nov 17, 2016, 4:18:00 PM

" That's where your confusion overrides reality. Yes, you are correct in that the Republican party initially turned their back on Trump. But you forget that Trump had his own supporters, who might have been registered as Republican (to vote in the primaries), but were really something else, such as Tea Party, Constitution Party, Freedom Party, etc., etc. This is why the Republican party asked Donald to sign his name on a contract that he would not later switch his official party. In contrast, you *almost* had the same thing happen in the Democratic party, where Bernie had supporters from the Green Party, Socialist Party, etc. Both Bernie and Donald almost tore up the party lines. Even hardcore Republicans say the party is in shambles after Donald won. Of course that's not true, since what really happened is that the Republican party was forced to recognize those other groups within themselves (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the alt-right or whatever). Those who would identify as the "Tea Party" is really the silent majority of the registered Republicans right now, even if the hardcore Republicans and neo-conservatives don't want to admit it. Why? It wasn't Trump's fault, it was Obama's 8 years in office and extreme liberal agendas and policies put into place that caused a massive knee-jerk reaction among conservatives. So thoroughly pissed off and frustrated with the Obama administration that they supported someone like Trump. Pissed off with LGBT activism in politics, pissed off about Political Correctness, and pissed off about how weak our International relations has become. It's the perfect storm of being proverbially stomped into the ground under Obama's boots that make the right fight back. Sure, you can say the liberals were also pissed off with Clinton and some voted for Trump out of spite, but what really happened was registered Republicans responding to the breathe of fresh air that Trump gave. The "take this job and shove it" blue collar reaction to an oppressive administration. You can see the same response from Bernie supporters, in the other direction, sick of the current Obama administration. If the DNC/Hillary didn't fix the election (and yes, it did happen, all there in the wikileaks), Bernie might have been the left's champion and response to Trump. So if history played out a little differently, instead of a radical right-wing president elect, we could of had a radical left-wing one. I think pepe and kek swung some of the votes from the online millennials, lol... err, I mean "kek!" (sorry, can't bring myself to use "kek" instead of my good ol' friend "lol"). " To be honest I think the whole drone and self-driving cars is a fad, regardless of how much the media and conspiracy theorist harp on about it. And regardless of companies like Uber investing millions and millions into it. It will take 1.) an entire revamp of our roadways to make self-driving cards viable, 2.) and change in insurance laws to make self-driving car manufacturers not liable, and 3.) decades more of technological advances to make everything cheap enough for the average car consumer to buy. In other words, it's going to take decades. Same with drones: good luck changing the laws of the snail-paced FAA to allow drones everywhere. At least with drones they're cheap enough for the masses, but actually flying them in populated areas is a massive legal battle just waiting to happen. And that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to that until time proves me right. ;-) ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░░░░░░░░░░░░░ cipher_nemo ░░░░░░░░░░░░░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ Last edited by cipher_nemo#6436 on Nov 17, 2016, 4:29:59 PM

" I am still unsure why people assume that non-Trump supporters = pro-Hillary. We had had the choice to pick between two poorly selected candidates. Holding on to some crap about emails only makes the ignorant shift to "I love Trump because Hillary lies about emails!". The truth of it is that positions of power use private email servers ALL OF THE TIME to conduct work on behalf of the government. It's not like she can send emails out from hrclinton@unitedstates.gov for everything you do in that position. It's a political position that requires a lot of underhanded shit. Politics is NEVER clean...but burning a system down isn't the answer either. Is wikileaks fake? I don't know...I don't go out actively searching for our Government's secrets. There are things I feel like should be secret. If an NFL team can hide it's playbook for dumb shit like sports, then a highly-seated government official will do the same. Pence right now is going through is own email privacy battle because I'm sure he has something he thinks he needs to hide. Was Hillary wrong in some of her shit? Probably...but I also feel like most people underestimate the amount of political backdoor deals that HAVE to take place to keep our country safe. Wikileaks isn't news to me at all. It's a system to oust private records into the public. This is good sometimes...but also very harmful at other times. I don't understand why HRC was held to some weird standard of full transparency when Donald Trump wouldn't even release something as simple as a fucking tax return? This whole clinton vs trump thing isn't a debate. Trump won...that shit is over. I'm more concerned with some of the plans he's put forth. Especially those revolving around tax cuts and what that means for government programs like Medicaid that my parents depend on. A president chanting "build a wall" doesn't help my father get physical therapy for his knee surgery. If everyone is getting Tax cuts...who's paying for this shit? Our kids? How are you going to cut from 7 tax brackets to 3 without fucking someone? If environmental restrictions for business are reduced who is going to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations? Our kids? Why in the fuck would anyone try to revitalize the industry of a dying resource like clean coal in the false promise of "more jobs"? Why the fuck should a government allowed to tell a woman what to do with HER body? At this point who knows... I really just needed to vent somewhere on the stupidity of middle America looking for a "savior" to fix all of their fucking problems. Middle america needs to wake the fuck up and take some responsibility for "falling behind" and I'm saying that as a middle American. Last edited by Prizy#1622 on Nov 17, 2016, 4:50:28 PM

" I agree. But the difference would be poor Sanders would not be able to get shit done w/Rep. congress. On an up note, I've managed to cull 5 friends off FB not due to politico opinions but untenable idiocy. I got some new friends, maybe smarter maybe not. My UK stock that I bought after it sank post Brexit enjoyed a nice BIG post Trump bump. Censored.

" I've been encouraging dems to look inward, first, before blaming outside forces for what just happened politically. I'll say the same to you. Tea Party exists foremost because Republican politicians looked them in the eyes and claimed to be conservative on a number of issues, and didn't deliver on half of those commitments. Including and especially fiscal conservatism. and @Prisus her government related e-mails are not 'secret government property'. They are the property of the citizens by law, and as such are to be subject to FOIA requests. Last edited by innervation#4093 on Nov 17, 2016, 5:05:16 PM

Americans want a moral and intelligent leader, but like someone else said earlier in this (300+ page) thread. It's a popularity contest (because we are stupid). We get all our information from one of three news stations that shovel shit 24/7. There is no competition for these stations, they can play whatever they want and they often do. Trump won because he's was the one being spoken about 90% of the time. I didn't even follow the presidency, but the only names that I ever heard during the whole thing were Hillary and Trump. No one else could get their name whispered.
The information system we have in place boils down to this... Anyone with enough money, intelligence, and proper influence to be a politician is unlikely to be a moral person. Or they are moral, but didn't have enough money to campaign and so owe a bunch of favors to immoral people. (best choice) Or they have the money, morality, but are too easily influenced/stupid/ignorant. Or they have the money, morality, and powerful intelligence, but are ganged on by the corrupt. A suitable person to be president, literally cannot win. Which is why all the debates are so ridiculous. I rooted for Trump because at least he's entertaining and his campaign was more intelligent than Hillarys. The commercials a week before the election we're ridiculous though... like some 12 year olds trying to insult each other to get in good with the popular kids. A kid with a magnifying glass. . . looming down on the anthill. Eventually one is going to get you.

" Yes...it's the great contradiction of the system isn't it? The best candidates for president are the reluctant ones. Even Washington gave up a lot in the "private sector" such as it was back then to be part of our grand new experiment. Our best presidents will be the ones we never have - all the intelligent, non-partisan, patriotic people with principles stay the hell away from D.C. --- I don't often link things to you folks, but when I do, they're worth reading. It's an 8,000 word post, and I'm putting the last little bit in a spoiler. At least read what's in the spoiler. It's probably the best thing I've seen written since the election.
Spoiler
Stop saying that being against crime is a dog whistle for racism. Have you ever met a crime victim? They don’t like crime. I work with people from a poor area, and a lot of them have been raped, or permanently disabled, or had people close to them murdered. You know what these people have in common? They don’t like crime When you say “the only reason someone could talk about law and order is that they secretly hate black people, because, y’know, all criminals are black”, not only are you an idiot, you’re a racist. Also, I judge you for not having read the polls saying that nonwhites are way more concerned about crime than white people are.
Stop turning everything into identity politics. The only thing the media has been able to do for the last five years is shout “IDENTITY POLITICS IDENTITY POLITICS IDENTITY POLITICS IDENTITY POLITICS IDENTITY POLITICS!” at everything, and then when the right wing finally says “Um, i…den-tity….poli-tics?” you freak out and figure that the only way they could have possibly learned that phrase is from the KKK. Stop calling Trump voters racist. A metaphor: we have freedom of speech not because all speech is good, but because the temptation to ban speech is so great that, unless given a blanket prohibition, it would slide into universal censorship of any unpopular opinion. Likewise, I would recommend you stop calling Trump voters racist – not because none of them are, but because as soon as you give yourself that opportunity, it’s a slippery slope down to “anyone who disagrees with me on anything does so entirely out of raw seething hatred, and my entire outgroup is secret members of the KKK and so I am justified in considering them worthless human trash”. I’m not saying you’re teetering on the edge of that slope. I’m saying you’re way at the bottom, covered by dozens of feet of fallen rocks and snow. Also, I hear that accusing people of racism constantly for no reason is the best way to get them to vote for your candidate next time around. Assuming there is a next time. Stop centering criticism of Donald Trump around this sort of stuff, and switch to literally anything else. Here is an incompetent thin-skinned ignorant boorish fraudulent omnihypocritical demagogue with no idea how to run a country, whose philosophy of governance basically boils down to “I’m going to win and not lose, details to be filled in later”, and all you can do is repeat, again and again, how he seems popular among weird Internet teenagers who post frog memes. In the middle of an emotionally incontinent reality TV show host getting his hand on the nuclear button, your chief complaint is that in the middle of a few dozen denunciations of the KKK, he once delayed denouncing the KKK for an entire 24 hours before going back to denouncing it again. When a guy who says outright that he won’t respect elections unless he wins them does, somehow, win an election, the headlines are how he once said he didn’t like globalists which means he must be anti-Semitic. Stop making people suicidal. Stop telling people they’re going to be killed. Stop terrifying children. Stop giving racism free advertising. Stop trying to convince Americans that all the other Americans hate them. Stop. Stop. Stop. http://slatestarcodex.com/2016/11/16/you-are-still-crying-wolf/ |
