[Lore] Why did Kaom kill them?

The thing that is odd, Maligaro experienced with Gems before Malachai, and up until now it seems as if he lived at some time before Malachai. And Maligaro conjured something evil, Helena mentioned it:

"
Maligaro conjured up a creature of the purest, darkest thaumaturgy

Still during the Purity Rebellion and before he didn't find much mentioning, another Thaumaturgist working on Virtue Gems would be kinda odd at the same time under one emporer. So the connection between Maligaro and Malachai seems a bit loose.

For all the others it was pretty clear already that the lived during the Purity Rebellion. Doedre's loretext mentions Geofri who condemns her and he took part in the Rebellion, Shavronne did as well and Malachai of course too. Maligaro however find no mention during the Rebellion so it seems as if until now he wasn't placed in this same time.

What we do know for sure is that Shavronne and Malachai survived the battles. Malachai was pardoned by Voll and Shavronne fled and raised the barrier we have to disable later (what happens to her afterwards is unknown).

I'm also not sure if Malachai is the source of corruption. The thing is Maligaro seemed pretty insane before and the virtue-gems come from the Mountain the beast lives in. So if they both used them the corruption could be from within this mountain and most of those protagonists got corrupted by the beast (whatever that actually is) and not Malachai. They basically all fell for the same source of corruption.

If we look at the corrupted ones we notice that a lot of them are easy prey due to their search for power. Voll and Kaom both got to the beast (or near it) after Malachai, since they likely noticed it was the source of corruption. And it isn't really sure if Hyrre and the remaining Karui families leaved the land after Kaom didn't return or at the same time he decided to go.

Interestingly we also don't know a lot of some other major people. Victario survived the Rebellion and isn't really mentioned afterwards.
I thought Merveil murdered Kaom.

Shavronne didnt survive the battle, she got killed by Brutus

Yes, Maligaro was the first to experiment with gems, but he lived in the same time as Malachai, they were friends

Malachai tricked Voll to go Highgate after the battle and Malachai became the servant of the Beast, causing the cataclysm

Victario didnt trust Malachai like Voll did, but he died like almost everybody else in the cataclysm

On a serious note, I was expecting to have to battle those 500 warriors in the final battle with Kaom. IMO - Kaom should have a huge sunken stone arena, with his warriors flooding in, archers at the top, and lots of the totems we saw on the way in. Additionally, Kaom would be able to periodically summon some of the Haku quest totems.

The 500 warriors are some of the trash mobs you encounter on the way to Kaom, along with Hyrri's fighters.

Maligaro probably died doing experiments in the Chamber of Sins. There are clear texts with Malachai sending messages to Maligaro on his experiments in the Chamber of Sins.

Shavronne got killed by Brutus.

Kaom got tricked in a sense. He couldn't handle that he was beaten by the beast, so he became delusional and believed that it was an offering of god to help him to victory. He probably died after offering the 500 of his warriors to some false god he made up.

Voll failed.

Have no idea how Daresso got there. Since he came before the Eternal Empire people. I assumed he tracked down the beast on his quest to save Merveil. He probably died there.

I like that idea. It'd be neat if you typed in /remaining when you entered Kaom's dream and the counter said "501 remaining" and then gave you an update.

Slightly OT, but something which seems to have been lost in the discussion is what Piety tells you in the Belly of the Beast: The Beast is the source of all thaumaturgy. So, whether we have killed that source, ending thaumaturgy (and Virtue Gems?), or it doesn't really die.

Either way, that creates some interesting issues for a potential Act V. =0[.]o=

Just a hint peeps and no spoils,

YOU MUST GET THE COMICS to fully appreciate and understand the "time scale" factor.

Things happened a lot sooner than most people think from what ive read and yes, Malachai and Malegero etc all were mates and worked together :)
