Australia is #5 in whole Europe

Used to like Eurovision but in recent years it became really hard to listen to. Songs are cheesy and so to say "lame", something something love, waiting, hope "I don't know what I am singing about" copy paste songs. Songs should sweep you off your seat, god damnit. As polish I am glad we were at the end, horrible horrible song (last years was even worse...yay boobies).

Now that is the show I am expecting, something special that makes you sing along with excitement:)

You are unlikely to see stuff like Lordi there because the preminilaries all have a jury.
Some countries even write the song and randomly pick a singer.

If you listen to metal you would have known that Nightwish attempted to start for Finnland in 2000 with Sleepwalker. They won the televoting but the jury gave them no points so in the end they became second.
It's hilarious because the entire world accepted scandinavian countries as a core of the metal culture. Everyone but the countries themselves.
There were many attempts to get different genres into ESC but due to the Jury there were only 2 metal contestants(Lordi an Terasbetoni) like 3 Hip-Hop/Rap contestants.

The rest were entirly pop, folklore, fun and ballads.

That whole contest is for a special group of people who watch pop songs in TV.

I was able to ignore that shit successfully, even or because of living in Germany. That song was so bad that nobody talked about it :)

This "contest" has always been horrible. A good 99% of the music is pathetic, always. It was never better, it always sucked. It's really a waste of money and should stop. Especially now with the financial crisis and everything.

As for the playback discussion, i know that singing has to be strictly live, and music has to be strickly playback. At least that's how it was up until 2 years earlier, dunno if it has changed.

Yes this is true. It's still live singing.

Instruments are playback, voice is live but enhanced via autotune, phonograms...
That's when the ESC became boring.
