Why Duelist is so popular char?

dualist passive tree are more focused to dualwhielding, and currently dualwhield skills is weak. too far from the RT, many time i got accuracy trouble at early levels.
his quest reward is so bad, no yolo friendly. (only 1 melee physi gem)
various time i wanna roll caster build with dualist, but his 3 starting points is just a waste.

I like to do something not normal, that passive tree is so huge, can do almost everything nice :D


Most likely because your build is completely the opposite of what most people think as a duelist build.

duelist got 'revamp' in 1.3 that simply have killed it as a class

sure - duelist's area nodes are great - +2 weapons, life regen everywhere, good weapon clusters

BUT!

all this is free to take for rangers/marauders. what they gain is seriously good starting nodes that duelists simply does not have

there is 0 people that think 'that duelist's starting nodes - have to get these!'. not a single sane person wants these nodes.

and thats why (the gem rewards debacle is a second reason) duelists are the least played class. it is the weakest melee class while melee being 'whatever' choice if one is after easy and cheap and effective

btw - the area between marauder and duelist is garbage. something to skip quickly and forget about. and it most likely is because of LL Shavs ST. this one item is holding entire passive tree hostage for far too long..

Duelist is the most versatile melee class, and pretty much the best class for DW(especially crit) builds. The main reason why people hate duelist, especially in ladder races, is because duelist has shit quest rewards and can only do melee, whereas even ranger and marauder can level using firetrap/flameblast or bows.

In terms of actual starting nodes, duelist is actually not too bad. It's just that to make the best use of it you need to take the dps pathway, which no one likes to do.

However, I will agree that duelist as it is right now is too niche. Kind of like scion, you only do those builds that don't get too close to the starting nodes of other classes, namely mara/ranger/shadow. However, unlike scion, the start nodes are at least halfway decent, and not a waste of points.

Only 1 really strong Duelist build, it's the cleave Wings of Entrophy shit that can actually outclass spell tooltip dps (except Discharge).

Outside of that, Marauders and Rangers do what he would want to do, but better, or at the very least, easier. And his area nodes are kinda shitty, because they are too highly specialised.

Compare Marauder and Ranger. They have tons of life clusters scattered around, which they then grab relevant nodes to their build as they path towards them. Contrast duelist. He'll end up going towards Marauder or Ranger for his life nodes, but why should he have to do so?

To make things worse, the keystones he has are in a shitty spot right now. Nobody wants to play pure armour so Iron Reflexes is useless for now, and nobody goes Mind of Matter when your mana pool is so low. Vaal Pact is a waste for a health class which doesn't tend to do very high damage, and Iron Grip is not very useful since it hardly provides any damage in the current Bow meta. Unwavering Stance is also very bad for duelist, since he must take Iron Reflexes or an evasion based class is which cannot evade is just weird. Bloodmagic is weird/weak for duelist since heralds provide so much utility currently.
