[2.0] Low Budget Crit Tornado Shot Ranger | beginner friendly | great for new and casual players

I've just taken a year off, come back without a clue how to build my 62 ranger again. Your build looks fun, I'm going to spec as you suggest and start buying the right gear. I'll be happy to post back with my findings!

Edit: I might be missing something, but I'm lvl 62 and was 2 skill points under achieving your level 60 passive build.

Although it could be my mistake... It has been a while...

So I've managed to get hold of this gear to start off with. I had the budget for Thief's Torment and Drillneck so decided to add these in. I know that removes the budget aspect but it seems to me that your build scales well with these items?

(I haven't started using chromes yet to get GGGRB for added fire)

So far really enjoying the Tshot, clearing mobs pretty damn fast.

All my other equipment is for my old build, so I am going to start building up orbs again so I can start to upgrade. What do you suggest I focus on?
(Also, all my gems are from my old build. I have yet to start building the gems, but I thought getting the Tshot setup was good enough to start with).

Did you already kill Merciless Piety? If not this would explain two missing skill points. Type in /passives to see if you grabbed all quest rewards.

Drillneck and Thief's are a great addition to this build. You lose your 2nd ring but as long as you can make up for the lost life/resists you should be fine. Because of the life and mana gain on hit you might want to NOT take Revelry and pick the projectile damage nodes in the Duelist area instead.

On another note, your Infractem is still a legacy one and they were pretty terrible back then. They buffed it significantly in 1.2.0 and unfortunately you cannot reroll your bow to the later version. Consider to buy a 5L Assassin's Garb (since your chest could use an upgrade) and buy a new Infractem for 4c...

I would start with the chest, this is your weakest item (you can easily get 1000 more evasion), then the belt could use a life roll. You can master craft it or buy a new one with 90+ life. Next up I would upgrade the flasks to Divine/Eternal and craft Surgeons of Warding on a 20% quality quicksilver and consider getting a Jade flask versus reflect. The rest of the gear looks pretty solid.

Excellent advice, thanks. Masters are another new thing I don't know about. It's nice to have my hand held while I get used to the game mechanics again, then when I've found my feet I will either build on this idea or think of something new! I've just been gathering the right gems so far, but I'll let you know how I get on with it.
i know it is a cross-advertising but you can read in detail about Infractem + theif's torment combo (i consider this combo INSEPARABLE due to various reasons) in my guide:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1096271

one thing missing from the guide - reflect handling. once reaching serious damage output reflect gets really dangerous - ESP because of Herald of Ice (it cannot be evaded! so jade flask gives a false sense of security). turn HoI off in ele reflect maps
Shame that with a Theif's torment it makes it really hard to get the resists if you are using a Coil, i'm using Inc. Criti and i have 52% critical, thought it was low

The Drillneck doesn't sound like a good idea with Infractem.. with another bow using the pierce gem and the cluster new shadow it is awesome.
Just started again after a break and this build is greatly appreciated, been having fun with it today thanks

Yes, with quality pierce and the pierce nodes you can exceed 100% pierce chance and push the damage potential of Drillneck even higher. But how many exalts does this cost? You would have to run TShot in a 6L chest (15ex+), have a gg Harbinger Bow (another 10ex+) and the Drillneck itself (7ex+) ... does not sound "budget" to me ;)

I was testsing my low budget gear versus Drillneck + Maligaro's and the difference in tooltip was 4k versus 7k while the actuall average crit damage difference was 20k to 30k - it is quite a difference in clearspeed, but not so much that it is worth the investment in the Drillneck.

tl;tr: if you are a lucky guy having/finding a Drillneck: use it. If not, just stick to the budget variant.

Thanks for pointing it out! I talked about reflect in the archenemy and map section but it's a good idea to have it as a separate topic. I edited the guide accordingly.

To answer the question re HoI and quote myself:

The cold damage explosion of a level 20 HoI has a range of 282-422 which is 352 on average - let us take our 20 mobs as example. If they all die but the rare, that's 19 explosions reflected back at you. Phase acrobatics lets you dodge 30% of the time so say you will get hit by 12. That's 12*352 = 4224 cold damage. 18% reflected back to you is 760, going through 75% cold resist results in 190 cold damage taken. You will not die to HoI ele reflect.
