There already is a sensor to detect this sort of thing. Its called common sense, common courtesy, and self control. Nothing else is necessary.

Someone who expects people show common sense in a FTP game on the internet where you could be dealing with anyone from anywhere and most any age group is not a realistic expectation. Your definition of courtesy might differ from someone who lives somewhere else than you, or there could be a communications barrier, or general lack of understanding where each side is coming from.

Someone like TC shows up, makes a user name he doesn't think originally is offensive, and gets modded for it. This could have been avoided had they simply placed a freaking filter, like most other places on the internet learned to do years ago.

People aren't coming here to get life lessons or attitude adjustments courtesy of GGG, or the PoE community, they're coming here to play a freaking game.

Should I be prevented from making a commentary on the sometimes low number of decent drops through my username ([Removed by Support]) because some scallywag can't figure out how to be polite on the interwebs?

How can I profess my love of early Tool songs if I have to suffer the pitfalls of a filter required by those who still occassionally get school boners? (PushItFan)

What about using my name to tell people they may neither analyse my symbols or get around my large frame? {UMayNotParseOrPass)

Filters are annoying :)

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!

They can be, but they don't have to filter everything. If its implemented properly, it shouldn't conflict with your "[Removed by Support]" username. Because the potentially filtered word has an e in place of an a.

The SJWs in this topic don't realize they're being discriminatory toward someone who comes from a different culture/customs than they do. The tenacity in which they're ready to get all over his nuts because he said an Oh noes!!! word, is nothing but some childish reactionary bullshit. Especially when the kid clearly said he didn't know any better.

The only rules that matter under GGG's roof are GGG's rules. Its every player's own responsibility to research and understand GGG's rules before using their software.
So your planned filter will block [Removed by Support], but will leave [Removed by Support] alone?

Then we'd still need to have support staff policing the names anyways.

Sounds like a bit of a waste of time to implement something that would still need actual people to monitor and action anyways.

Ignorance has not, in nearly every country I have had the pleasure to travel to, been a defence in the face of the law. It is often a cue for leniency to be applied (as in this case, the account was renamed instead of banned), but should never be accepted as an excuse.

This is especially true when ToS are clearly indicated as part of the installation process, forum guidelines etc.

:)

Yeah, but this was a minor mishap on the internet, its not like he murdered someone and used the excuse that he didn't know murder was a crime or something. No reason to take this more seriously than it needs to be.
Its not a mishap on the internet though. This happened within GGG's software against GGG's policy.

And where is the access point for their software? The internet in the case of this game, and on this forums.

I do think GGG got it right, he wasn't banned. The ones talking about banning are asking for the equivalent of a cop shooting you in the face for speeding, instead of handing you a ticket. Nazi much?
Whoa! Over exaggerated analogies, Batman! 😉
what's with all the removed by support boxes? I can't even follow what you guys are trying to say lol...

Over exaggeration was the point I was making. Lets break this down (assuming) this is the first time this guy has gotten into any trouble. And also considering he is a supporter. Wouldn't banning over a first offense for something like this be excessively extreme?
