[1.3] Nycta's Lantern Build

so i just acquired a perfect Nycta's Lantern



i was going to make a ek shadow with faster projectile and spell echo with it but i'm not sure if it's good (i've seen a topic about it)

i'm pretty noob, i stopped playing like 1 year ago so i need your help

basically i'm iso a build based on Nycta's Lantern with low budget that can be tanky enough to survive a bit of lag

It seems like a leveling unique to me. Not something you can really build around. Unless i'm missing ideas there.

At best you will have a "shitty" 6link with added fire-cold to fire-fire pen all at level 10 no quality. I can't think of any spell that would be great with it.
And besides that your weapon only give you 30% spell damage and 20% elemental damage.
So it's good when you can't get 5l/6l or when your gems are still low. But after that...

Better go for a real weapon where you can get easily 80%+ spell damage, some crit and other mods like mana, mana regen, res or whatever. Then you can use a real 5l in chest.

Shockwave totem will benefit from it.I believe it will beat a 4 socket item but not really 5 and above due to L10 gem.I had a build around it but eventually surpassed it with other gear.

I'm doing an AoF templar to make use of it as a cheap 6 link in torment. Here's a level 75 build.

Needs chernobogs pillar and hrimsorrow to use AoF, but is strong even before taking AoF. Links are BM and cast speed/echo in nyctas. Reserves all mana with heralds of ash and ice then hatred. Can maybe drop herald of ash for purity of fire to deal with reflect. This all adds up to ~125% added fire damage with buff effect nodes and cold to fires added damage. With AoF you end up dealing 225% of EK's base damage as fire, before accounting for spell, fire and elemental damage mods.

The build is of course overshadowed by anything else that uses a real 6-link, but uhh I ain't getting one of those in a timed league lol.

Are you sure? Getting a 6-link has never been easier now that elreon and vorici team up to bring you discount jews + fuses.

With enough grinding, even someone with a full-time job could get enough jews for the vorici deal every day, which would get you a guaranteed 6-link in 2.5 months (shorter than the league, if you have a level 6 vorici by day 15). And let's be realistic here, you will also get fuses from maps, albeit more slowly.

Further, we already know that the 1500 price is overpaying. If you want to try to get lucky, it's like 700 fuses on average, so under 1.5 months of grinding.

Now, if you also have a *life* on top of a job, that's a different story, but let's be honest, people with lives will never put together good builds in temporary leagues....

I know you put "low budget" build but honestly the weapon doesn't do anything special for EK like any other normal weapon would for "low budget."

It doesn't add anything other then make it a very low end 6-link. (Not really but whatever) A 4 link EK with higher levels of added fire damage will do more damage because cold to fire and fire pen aren't really needed.

If your going to put it in your weapon at least do ek/spell echo/faster casting-life leech. Other then that build whatever variant of EK shadow you want, weapon doesn't make a big enough difference to be a build outside of being a placeholder/leveling item.

The point is to use AoF, it's not really useful otherwise. I tried my hardest to make a build that an actually use nyctas and AoF EK is literally the only way to make it scale well. So far I'm enjoying it and finding it fairly strong.

I haven't checked my build to see how it performs in 1.3 but for 1.2 I have been using Nycta's for a long time with my Fire Trap / Flame Surge build. Currently Lvl 73 and still doing OK.

It's not always the fastest for clearing but by it's nature it's quite survivable for the odd bit of lag. Firstly because you're usually at a distance from your enemies and secondly because traps will usually still trigger even in a lag situation.



Really all you need for the build is the boots and the belt but I found Nycta's has a nice little synergy too. Yes there's other items out there that will probably work better but I run around burning things using a light on a stick. There's something about that which appeals to me :)

Prior to Nycta's I was leveling quickly using a three link Fencoil and heaven knows, after the last race season there should be a million of those things floating around for next to nothing. I think they should be cleared into the new league in about a couple of weeks.

Flame Surge cannot ignite, even if you link it to Chance to Ignite.
