He's way to expensive though - why would I pay 40ex for his services when I can just buy the 6L in question for 30ex?

Good god man. 40ex in standard is 1.5k fusings? Lol ouch
37.5 exalts, soo yeah pretty close to 40 exalts.

Thing is, when youve already spent 1500+ fusings on something, in my opinion, if you dont have anymore room for gambling or the 6L in question is essential, its worth it.

Ive been trying to trade my Disfavour + lots of exalts for a 6L one, no ones biting (the 6L disfavours are completely over priced, feel free to XYZ it).

Also ive spent probably >1500 fuses now on it, its getting past the point of dumping more currency into since im not going to be reselling it, already in the hole >1500 and i dont have currency to sit around and waste when i have soo much to upgrade.

I think using Vorici is a good idea in cases like that.

For me, socketing things has always been a nightmare, i always just use the 6S vendor now for it. My Taryns ate up a good 600 jews, a good 400 fuses just for a single 5 link.

When RNG is being a bitch, sometimes youve just gotta use it.

Spoiler
I think it is strange that we now have an NPC Vendor that accepts Jeweller's, Fusings, and Chromatics to provide guaranteed functions relating to the currencys' underlying functionalities. All the QQ about socket crafting and GGG actually changed nothing fundamental but instead added an NPC Vendor offering guaranteed outcomes gated behind some time/cost. Maybe they made the right move. Who knows.
I agree with this. I was (maybe naively?) expecting a fundamental rework of socketing / fusing, not just a buyout you need to pay to get it done...
Did anyone ever think that GGG would actually implement guaranteed socket crafting outcomes for fixed prices? I never considered for a second that they might actually do such a thing.

While Vorici is not the direction I would have hoped for, I consider him the best alternative to what I personally think would have been the way to go. I would rather have seen a simple pass/fail roll to add a socket or link, with chances mirroring the outcome probabilities that exist now. It would have remained just as difficult to 6 link, but would have allowed players to actually craft what they use due to removing the possibility of making an item objectively worse.

I don't much care for the retirement planning approach to socket crafting.
Well said, and lol :P

I was so hoping for a low risk socket crafting option to arise around 1.2.0, and I was blindsided by a fucking guaranteed outcome NPC that could replace Fusings and Jeweller's entirely.

It's obvious you haven't yet tried using Vorici's services to Chrome 5-6L items with multiple off-color sockets. The smart strategy is not to pay a hundred or more Chromatics for a result that guarantees only three of the socket colors. For just 15-25 Chromes you can specify two off-colors, and keep rolling till the rest of the colors turn up the way you want them. A reasonable cost for much better odds to succeed.

I have had no reason to use this convoluted socket crafting method. Actually, I have not done any socket crafting since FM hit. I have MAYBE spent < 5 socket crafting Orbs by consumption. Other than that, I have pretty much written off socket crafting; If GGG is not going to improve it and just add a cheezy casual vendor, then I will just enjoy the game with less sockets and links. When I get to the point where I am trying to decide "how" to socket craft on a character, maybe I will just create a new character because this is probably close to the min/max end-game futility point where nothing gets done except your stash filling up with junk that you have to sell to extract value from. Sorry but, not going to spend a year grinding for Fusings and Chromatics just to get a few more links and few more ideal colours. This shit needs to be more progressive and less "save for a long ass time, then spend it all in 1 second for a mediocre guaranteed outcome".
