garena is a partner of ggg and only covers asia and has a different patch level of the game than worldwide server gateways of ggg's game have.

playing on ggg servers (steam included) and garena requires different accounts.
there is a asian server for the official ggg game but you have to type it's name manually into the starting screen of the poe client (don't remember the name of the server though).
