Let's expand on this idea!!!!

When you join (or form) a party you get the option to pick a filter for an item (or item category) that you are looking for. You could set it to shields, a specific gem, str/int armour, etc.

These filters would probably need to be approved by party/party leader.

Let's say I'm looking for shields, so i join a party and set my preference to shields (and the party approves the request), now any time a shield drops (regardless of who killed the mob, or where it died) it will drop at my feet that way i get first dibs on the item.
Does the life leech support gem (%, not the #/hit one) work with elemental damage or just physical damage?

Diablo 3 is pretty disappointing. I really don't like what they've done with the skill system, or how areas aren't really randomly generated anymore..
