The overarching theme of Path of Exile for me is that if this is an odyssey, which is by etymology a long journey home
, then it is in discovering that home is not where the Exile thought it was. Listen to the comments to themselves as they level up: slowly but surely the Exile goes from barely surviving Wraeclast to becoming a part of it, strengthened by it. Any resistance to becoming the sort of self-serving killer Wraeclast demands is cast away. The illusions of civility that rule Oriath cannot compete with the more basic state of existence for an Exile.
There is no going home from that.
There is no happy ending for someone whose home is a place like Wraeclast.
There is only death...and a lot of it.
Does this mean that the ending is going to involve my character getting back to Oriath and having a mid-life crisis because of how bland it seems to him?
