Romira's Banquet
|
Hello, I'd like to discuss power charge stacking mechanic with Romira's Banquet and eventually propose a change to it.
Some time ago, I ran crit based Discharger with Voll's Protector with all pros and cons related to it. According to me, it had more cons and some of them were simply too much to bear. I was squishy, not possible to run as mf, low mana pool, dying on ele reflect, disallowed in many party runs etc. Therefore I did a lot of adjutments to my build over time. Switching Voll's to Romira and started to stack power charges with Incinerate. Major setback compared to Volls was that I had to stack power charges all over again after every Discharge since it burned all power charges after every crit. With new incoming patch and possibility to change whole build I wanted to do something different (while still using selfcast Discharge). I planned to use Resolute Technique, which would allow me to stack power charges with discharge itself (like Voll’s does with crits). Obviously everything has to have some tradeoff while Voll's have miserable defences and halves your manapool. Romira’s setback on the other hand is the fact that it burns all power charges per crit. Therefore only usefull spell without Resolute Technique is Incinerate. Aswell you potentially have to spend a ton of passive point to get it if you are not around. and last but not least.. you are giving away ton of damage output and you cannot benefit from other crit based mechanic like status alignments, power charges on crit etc. Simply if feels kinda unfair and very limiting while there is no need for such limitation. Just think what would change if Romira's would give you power charge per every noncrit hit instead of noncrit cast. You could stack power charges faster and that's it… Incinerate stack power charges quite fast enough but you are limited to that particullar spell. Isn't this game based on making possibilities for new and original builds? Please reconsider Romiras to have equal power charges stacking mechanic to Voll's. It wouldn't be op and it has major setbacks aswell. TLDR: Romira's Banquet should have power charge per every noncrit hit rather than noncrit cast (equal to Voll's mechanic) Reason: Without Resolute Technique it is limited to Incinerate. With resolute technique you are giving away HURE damage output and all crit based mechanics). Thx for reading this. Last edited by Diphal#5777 on Aug 19, 2014, 7:09:25 AM

You are aware how incredible powerful this is with Discharge and Resolute Technique, since you can basically run around discharging permanently because you get at least 1 powercharge whenever you hit someone, more if you hit more enemies.
The only important thing would be having enough Charges. I'm unsure if Discharge with Spell-Echo needs the charges twice, but even if the first cast gives back the charges, but if not you could always cast Discharge with at least two charges (and I assume it works like this, considering other skills like EC). |

" I can confirm right away that spell echo linked to Discharge consumes charges again on second "echoed" charge. And yes it is possibly powerfull combined with Discharge if you would find the way how to stack all charges with Discharge itself, but man... you have "only" 6 possible sockets to use (I don't even mention how expensive 6L is). This is quite limitation itself. You obviously have Discharge, then you are forced to use Mana Leech and Life Leech. That makes 3 sockets left and every of these makes Discharge powerfull (dps wise). Ele Prolif for burn based Discharge, Increased Effect, Fire Penetration, Concentrated Effect all gems are powerfull. Anyway I don't think that Discharge with 1 power charge is powerfull... like at all. Especially if you are stacking endurance charges through power charges with Voll's Devotion like me. I simply have to use Incinerate to stack Power Charges first. And even if you would find the way how to stack all charges with discharge... well why not. Youur Discharge spam would be limited by manacost (which is on 6L quite huge) and cast speed. There are different builds which spam spells so much that computer is unable to display all that effect and nobody says it OP... more likely they define that as annoying. Considering Casts per second Discharge isn't much more Expensive than fireball and it uses only Conc. Effect as terrible expensive.
But just considering your change to Romiras a single Echoed Spark-Cast in Melee-Range gives 6 Power-Charges. So just link Cwdt/Spark/Spark/Spark and get full Powercharges for every 500 damage you take. Firestorm would also be insane. That is even funnier if you get a reflect-map, since you would permanently have max powercharges because you damage yourself hopefully enough and without crit it is propably still survivable (with just one cast per second and only 6 powercharges you would do 1686 damage without modifiers. With just conc. Effect, Life-Leech and a few damage-nodes (total of 300% increased spelldamage from gear) would boost this to about 11400 damage per cast. And that is with just Romiras and a 3l. This change would just bring Romiras totally out of control, and thats with manually casting. You could also just doublestrike and use CoC to proc Discharge. A Multistrike/Doublestrike can easily reach 12 Hits per second, which means 12 powercharges per second for Discharge. |

Yes you could do that... I want to do that. I want to build a toon around that. Thats why I bother to do this.
Still I don't think it would be op. You would have to take Resolute Technique to do that and thats quite sufficient setback. You definately couldn't use CoC as you mentioned since you wouldn't do any crits. And without RT it wouldn't work either since every crit would remove all power charges. There are plenty of builds you could consider to be op, but this is not the case. Viable yes, op not. Last edited by Diphal#5777 on Aug 19, 2014, 8:56:18 AM

" Yeah I just noticed the CoC thing. Although you wouldn't need CoC. I guess thats a bit problematic here, since you would crit and caste Discharge at the same time. Would it still be able to cast it since. But multihit skills are still incredible strong with this. You could actually double-tap it with frenzy getting power-charges and frenzy charges on hit quite easy. The big thing though is the incredible low cost. It is basically a 10k+ dps build costing only Romiras and a decent Wand/Shield. It would also pretty much eliminate Romiras Downside of losing the charges on crit since a lot of spells have the ability to hit multiple enemies giving you back all the charges basically after one cast. The biggest issue is most likely that it would make Mjölnir just broken. Right now Mjölnir is only balanced because it doesn't really work too well with Crit, Romiras would basically eliminate that. Conc. Effect, Empower, Discharge triggered with Cyclone or for more charges Conc. Effect, Spark, Discharge and just Cyclone, or in the case of a single target frenzy. |

Romira's is an exceptionally well designed unique. It has everything a good unique should have--a build enabling mechanic, with an equally interesting build defining drawback; an abundance of power, but elegantly metered. It can enable some downright strong builds, but it, by itself, is well balanced.
There is absolutely no need to change a thing. Devolving Wilds

Strong builds? Such as? And what do you mean by strong build. You are talking about self cast Discharger which actually has so many flaws that nobody is using it and if he does I don't see a single reason why he should not be able to.
... and I'm not talking about cast on crit Dischargers here since CoC Dischargers dont use Romiras... like at all. Its simply nonsense to use it that way. If you would use resolute Technique you would broke CoC. ... dunno what I expected. This community is so annoying. You have tons of builds you could consider broken, op or whatever and you wont say a word. Why dont you argue abot them? When you could make some new build just viable, thats something you could never ever allow to happen. Why's dont u consider Voll's Protector op then? BECAUSE IT IS NOT and it does give you power charge per every crit hit, nor crit cast. Last edited by Diphal#5777 on Aug 19, 2014, 9:13:33 AM

Are you new around here? Or do you choose not to pay attention? This forum has a longstanding tradition of bitching about everything. Literally, everything, and you're suggesting there's something people aren't complaining about? Lol
And Voll's Protector has a sizable drawback, greater than or proportionate to its advantage. What you propose for Romira's sets it's advantage greater to its drawback, and for no good reason. And no, "I want," and "I think," are not good reasons. However, this is all irrelevant; I am not discussing opinions on relative power, I'm bringing necessity to the table. Your proposed change is unnecessary.
Spoiler
Also, try self-casting Discharge with Romira's and Voll's Devotion. It's a lot of fun :) Not OP, just fun.

" Are you? Everything you bring to this forum is your personal opinion. Nothing more. You are not in position to make any relevant statements like you would be member or development. This particular change for me is build enabling, therefore VERY necessary. If you think that required Resolute Technique is minor drawback then further arguing with you is waste of time.
