I am Haku, armourmaster, and i dont wear armour.

He uses Bringer of Rain but only takes it in combat, also speaking from experience being topless is actually comforting.

Why would someone wear armor to craft armor...?

you can... actually.

Plate armor is actually lighter and less restrictive and chain armor, and hammering an opposing armored foe's skull on, or driving your sword through the weak points of their armor seems to be a slightly more difficult job to do.

Still, a blacksmith usually just needs a leather apron. Furthermore, a blacksmith isn't necessarily a warrior himself...

I do have to point out, however, that the karui don't seem to be a people known for their skill in making armour... as evidenced by their total lack of it in the comic and everywhere in PoE.
Making the armorsmith a karui seems... silly.
