Are straightforward builds fine?

Reading some of the extremely elaborate builds in the class sections, it makes me wonder: is it absolutely necessary? I know they're going to be the most effective and satisfying to finally build up to, but can simple "boring" builds still get the job done in cruel and merciless so long as you plan ahead and play cautiously?

The reason I ask is because I can't but obsess over my builds, to the point where I'm constantly starting new characters. I just want some reassurance that I may finally be able to "move on" and stick with a character lol

As long as you take enough survival, any build is fine.

The goal in cruel and merciles should be not to get killed. If that's what you build around, u will be fine.
