MoM, unreserved mana, and mana regen
The greatest amount of damage your mana will absorb from a single blow is 43% of your maximum life (on an attack that would otherwise deal 143% of your maximum life) or an amount equal to your unreserved mana (if you have less than 43% max life in unreserved mana).
If you have less available mana than somewhere in the vicinity of 30% of your life it really isn't worth it. I'd rather have all the mana MoM needs available (again 43% of max life) than be gaining a very small amount of overall DR by only having enough mana to absorb small hits. " Cause it absorbs 30% of damage, and through Clarity that 30% quickly "regenerates". I sometimes run MoM with under 500 unreserved mana. Still not a problem at all. Last edited by elitedesolator#6827 on Jul 26, 2014, 8:55:29 PM

" Exactly, with high mana regen a 500-700 mana pool is still really nice. Not only does it provide some mitigation, but it serves as a fast regenerating buffer that is taken from your slow-regenerating life. My question is how to compare this to non-MoM. Saying you have 5000 HP and 700 unreserved mana so you have 5700 EHP seems simplistic. In half-regen maps you don't really have that, nor do you really have that if you're constantly in the middle of packs of monsters. So do you have 5350 EHP, I dunno, I suggested a formulation in OP, but people are dismissive in this thread. All my builds /view-thread/1430399
