Avoid Stun - How is it calculated?

So I was wondering how the x% chance to avoid stun nodes work.

From the mechanics thread, the stun chance is:
"
stun_chance = 200 * damage / defender_effective_max_life

It seems likely that these nodes increase the defender_effective_max_life. That would imply that they are multiplicative with any normal +x% life nodes. It would also make them rather pointless unless you already have significant amounts of +x% life.

With +100% life, three 8% stun nodes would decrase your chance to be stunned by about 20% (from 50 to 40 percent, or 25 to 20 etc). An equal amout of +8% life nodes would provide about 11% with respect to stuns, but also increase your total life by another 12%.

Not all that impressive for a single-purpose-node. Any clarification on that?

I am curious as to why you feel that's likely - that's overly complicated and means they don't actually provide the bonus they say.

They're much simpler than that. If you would be stunned you have an X% chance to avoid that stun. Stun chance determines whether the hit is attempting to apply a stun, and if it is, you roll stun avoidance to avoid the stun.
I guess it just makes sense to me to have it all in one formula instead of subsequent checks :).

But thanks for the info! So the bonus is quite significant, that is nice.

This could use some clarification on the wiki then. Most of my friends drew the same conclusion.
