How does ball lightning and spell echo crit work?

I'm trying to make a ball lightning build that uses crit to freeze and shock with the three dragons unique, but I'm not really sure how critting with this skill works.

What I'm assuming is that when a single ball crits once, it'll continue to crit on all of its hits, but I'm not sure. Critical weakness bonus should be rolled seperately on every target, right?

Another thing that I'm not sure about is spell echo: Assuming the above is true, if the first cast rolls a crit, will the second cast also crit?

So please help me out, I need this info to figure out how efficiently I can freeze and shock. (using added cold+pyre ring for shock btw, the quality bonus gives nice synergy with the freezing aspect of my ball lightning.

Spoiler
I use three dragons because I want higher dmg for freezing than shocking, if you disagree you can also give me advice on the build if you want.

edit: Found how spell echo works on the wiki, still not sure about ball lightning.

This is how it works:

- Chance to crit is rolled once per skill use as a number 1 to 100
- If the number fell under chance to crit the skill does a crit on every hit it makes (at least for spells, attacks also have to confirm a crit by rolling chance to hit once more per for every attempted crit, and if they fail you get a normal hit instead).

So, if your chance to crit for ball lightning is 16% and you roll 12 on cast it will crit, if you roll 20 it won't. However, if some of your targets were affected by crit weakness those targets will get a crit because the curse extends crit range for them so your roll of 20 will fall under it.

For repeated skills 'per use' rolls are the same and 'per hit' rolls are made again, which means crit roll isn't made again on repeat, but chance to shock rolls with static blows passive will be rolled again for every hit.
So if you crit with a lightning ball using echo the repeated one will also crit.

...
Not sure how good would the whole thing work with low damage effectiveness and low crit chance on lightning ball. It probably won't inflict status ailments as often and as long as you might like.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I believe it is good for shocking but I really doubt it would freeze anything but non-resistant trash mobs... your crit multi would have to be insanely high

Thanks a lot, that explains it.

As for the build working or not, I'll see how it goes, I can just take the freezing part out and focus on proliferating shock, which I've seen a pretty good example of even without crit. I'm gonna play it in the 1 month, so it's not a big deal if it doesn't work.

That added cold converted to fire is just an idea to proliferate shock from trash mobs while getting decent freeze durations which I'd never achieve without three dragons, because added cold's damage would only give me really short freezes. The shocks from it might be enough tho.
