Enlighten gem questions

Enlighten is a drop-only support gem that increases the experience gain of supported active skill gems. Enlighten has only three levels and it doesn't have any effect at level one.

1. what are active gems?
2. can i use enlighten on my second equip? (leveling gems with lets say a 6L staff that has enlighten level 2 connected)
3. from what i understand it does not support support gems, right?

1. active skill gems = skills that you use on command (from wiki)

It's worthless. Even at level 3 it's only 12% increased xp. Best case scenario, you have a 6L in your weapon swap to level gems with it. You will get 112% xp for the 5 gems linked for a total of 560% xp. This is terrible considering you get 600% xp normally leveling whatever you want in your swap including support gems.

Agreed, the only use I see for it is to help level the other two. Very niche, bad design.

So you're saying that even with a 6L in your secondary weapon slot and a level 3 enlighten it is not worth the cost of taking a slot in the secondary weapon, assuming that you want to level up 6 skill gems? So 12% x 5 = 60% and 60% is less than 100%. So then it would only be good if you only wanted to level up 5 gems as fast as possible? Hmmm, I think I have to agree, bad design.

Not so worthless if your alt weapon has + gem level on it. If you can get a level 4 Enlighten through corruption, it would add 24% experience in a +1 gem level item.

That's actually pretty damn horrible, basically you need to level manually to lv 3 which is going to take somewhere around forever, and then only can you level your gems, if and only if you have a 6L spare to not be actually used, at 500+(24*5) = 620% instead of 600%. That's a total gain of 3% xp, on 5 gems, for an investment of probably a few hundred exes (lv 4 gem + a spare 6L weap) and you can't even do it early since you need a base lv 3 gem (like 2 bil exp?)

So yea, absolutely horrible

thanks for the input guys, guess its not worth it..especially the exp to level the gem itself.
id be better off with leveling another gem then instead of using enlighten
