What's worth the chance?

Hey guys! I'm wondering which items are worth chancing, I don't really know what to do to get rich so I thought I'd just chance a bunch of things. Yes I know it's not the smartest way but I guess I have fun doing it. I was just wondering which items would be the best and most beneficial to chance! I'm in Ambush League right now if that helps. Also it would be great if you guys could tell me spots to farm for the certain items. I really appreciate the help that you guys/girls give me. Thanks!
Kind of depends why you want to chance -

If you're looking to make a lot of currency, then chancing Siege Axes for Soul Taker uniques is probably the way to go. There is a perenial market for them, and they are fun to create builds for if you can't sell it (or decide not to).

You can also chance Occultist Vestments for Shavronnes Wrappings, again its a solid investment as they have high demand and relatively stable prices and are also fun to build with. However, this is not the only unique from this base item type, so you may end up with a lot less valuable of an outcome even if you manage to beat the odds and get a unique from a chance orb.

If you're looking to create things to build from, just about anything is worth while. If you have a particular build in mind and plan on farming/chancing for the required gear - YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE A BAD TIME. You'd be better of saving the orbs and converting them to higher currency for purchasing gear.

For farming in general, there is no specific place to farm specific uniques/gear. The only really guaranteed drops are from Atziri.

Some uniques can only drop in endgame maps - this includes most of the high value stuff. However, some areas such as Piety/Dominus/Vaal Oversoul have a pretty good unique drop chance. For lower levels, Merivil (sp) is a good run - there are farming guides for her on her that can cut a run time down to a couple of minutes with the right setup.

The Ledge is a good place to farm for XP as well as gear. I usually drop a unique every 10 or so runs, they tend to be things like Deerstalker Boots, Velvet Gloves/Slippers, and the occassional low level unique weapon, but that *swooshboom* sound and the orange glow of light is still quite satisfying.

If you're overlevelled for The Ledge, then Fellshrine has plenty of mobs and a decent unique drop chance. After that, the Docks and Lunaris Level 2/3 are good options.

Feel free to party up (especially with friends) as this increases overall drop quantity, and may result in more regular unique drops - just be aware that they may not always be your drops. You can overcome this with a good group who don't mind doing some unique swapping at the end of a run.

That's about it from me. There is a currency farm guide (or 3000 of them) both in the forums and on Reddit, so have a google for them if you need more info.

Otherwise, GLHF.

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

Best of luck in the future!
I have some problems with farming Piety and Dominus but I can probably do Vaal Oversoul, is he a really good unique source? I hear lots of people talking about farming him. Thanks for your feedback! I spent about 150 chances on a variety earlier. Gavels/siege axes/chain belts/occulist vestments. I had no luck with them but I have another 150 to do just gotta farm for them. NO GIVING UP! Will post what if I get something!
Vaal is not an easy farm, mostly because you have to run his temple over and over again which eats up a lot of time.

In comparison, Dom & Piety are a bit quicker if you get good instances but the fight is a little tougher if your build is a bit squishy or underpowered.

If you want easy farming, Fellshrine/Ledge/Docks are the way to go. The unique drop rate is not remarkably different, unless you are packing tons of MF. The only real positives is that the bosses tend to have the chance to drop higher ilvl uniques than your random run of the mill mob.

Do you want to link your build and gear? Maybe there are some easy ways to toughen it up for Piety/Dom farms.

Or... you could try level 66-69 maps.

Yeah for sure! This is my first character and honestly I'm not rich at all so I don't have the best gear and I don't have much knowledge about the game. It'd be great if you guys could give me some tips or suggestions.
Sorry I'm not really sure how to do the linking. Also I am running this build: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/909650 I'm lvl 76 atm with 6k dps, I don't think that's a lot at my level..

Alrighty.

DPS is low compared to the build guide mostly because of your +%Spell Damage. Kenzorz is running over 200% Spell Damage just from his gear, while it looks like you're sitting at 75%.

Your extra crit chance is good, but Its never going to balance out the raw DPS gain of base damage multipliers. You'll want to gear up a little to enhance your DPS, but it shouldn't cost too much to get impressive results.

Your gloves and dagger are not linked fully, which makes your cold penetration gem a little useless. You'll be able to link both with expenditure of 20 fusings (at a guess, make sure to worship RNG first), and this will give you better options.

- 4 Link the gloves to make use of the cold penetration gem for better trap damage
- Take out faster casting from your Carcass and replace with added lighning
- Fully link the dagger and replace Frostbite with a damage support gem
- Are you running 3 Auras? If not, ditch one from the helmet and put the Arctic Armor in there
(I would probably hold onto Hatred to help up your DPS, and pick up some mana leech from passive tree or gear to remove the need for Clarity)
- Are you running 2 Auras? If you are, how much unreserved mana do you have, does your regen outstrip your usage?
- You've got a mix of Armor/EV/ES - how much ES do you run? Do you feel it's enough?
- I haven't done the maths, but are you running capped resists? (except Chaos, fuck Chaos)

I would probably toss the dagger and look for a decent wand with higher spell damage mods, see if you can find some gear with some +Cold Damage (retain the +Life though), and probably look for some off colour EV/ES rolled gloves/boots/helm to try and up your core damage avoidance/mitigation.

DISCLAIMER: I've got shit all experience with Cold spell builds, so someone way more intelligent than me will be able to offer better ideas (might be worth making a new thread)

Oh, and to link your build - click on your character portrait, click on PASSIVE TREE, ctrl-c the URL, and paste into the message body using the URL code above.

Ah thank you so much, that was actually very helpful feed back. I will definitely get on that right away. You're totally right about the spell damage so I'll try and bump that up. Looks like I might stick with this character a bit longer. Going to spend my last 200 chances then stop till I make more money. Cheers!
to op: not all uniques can be chanced from their base items, there are exceptions where the itemlevel of the base item has to be the same as the requirement level on the weapon or gear you want to chance.
don't have the requirement level list right here, sry.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
