how to improve my load times?

Hardware upgrades are always preferred.

Upgrading RAM can make a HUGE difference but only if you're running a 64 bit OS, and not 32. Then you're stuck with 3 gigs. That is, if you have Micro$oft. Macs might be better for memory allocation.

SSD drives are amazing, but if your CPU, Video, BUS Speed, etc... is slow, it won't help either.

Your PC is as fast as your slowest part. Run a utility like Sandra by SiSoftware, or something along those lines, and find out where your weak link is.

Another utility you can try, and maybe try it before buying hardware, is Gamebooster. I have a fast gaming PC and I still use it because I can pick what runs and doesn't in the background and that keeps heat and consumption down. Also you can defrag specific game folders, rather than the whole PC. There are other utilities like it, maybe, but I've had success with Game Booster.

Anyway, good luck and I hope you find a nice way to get those load times improved!

Happy Gaming!
I am in pretty much the same boat as you. I lost my first character going through a bad tp.

Now I play solo only and load times are no longer a factor. All entrances and waypoints are clear of mobs and whenever I make a tp I make sure I am not near anything.

Solo Play Load times should not be a factor
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.
For maximized HDD performance you should check "enable write caching on disk" and "enable advanced performance" in the HDD properties panel.
Also remember to defrag and empty the temp folder on a regular basis.

I know you said internally but really there isn't much. Maybe if you have a lot of memory you can make a ramdisk for the game.

Woah. I had no idea SSD would help.

I have the game installed in the hard disk drive of my computer and I could have it transferred to the SSD section (this game is worth the limited SSD diskspace :D) But anyone know an easy way to transfer? Because I'm not sure I have the full game installer (and that might mean I have to restream the entire game to reinstall? xD)
It will convert your forum titles into decorative square badges that use the space next to your forum posts more economically so that you can show off an unlimited number of them at any one time. - GGG, 2018 (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3573673)
Defrag a HDD isn't necessary since Vista and for SSDs, it's the WORST you can do ....

Just copy + paste your game folder onto the SSD, should work, mine works fine on D: after reinstalling Windows 7 on C: without any problems.

Download the game installer on your SSD. Then take the Content.ggpk and copy it over to the new Grinding Gear Games directory on your SSD. Once the Launcher boots up, it will read that the Content.ggpk is up-to-date to whatever point you're patched to.
I have a 7200RPM WD Blue drive and my loading times in most cases is 10 seconds or less (most of the time less).

A nice tip, you may want to see if your drive has any power/sound features to it, like Advanced Power Management (APM) or Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM). If so, you can disable these settings (if you don't require them anyway) for better performance.

Hitachi Feature Tool can be used to change the settings in most cases, but if you want a more friendly option, you can also boot a Ubuntu LiveCD, go into the Drive Settings, and change SATA Settings there, and then reboot back to Windows :) (the LiveCD is just that, it won't install itself to the HDD or anything unless you tell it to)

God, I keep a Ubuntu LiveCD on my desk just for cases where I need to boot into it to use it's tools to do certain things with more ease than on a Windows machine - like wiping drives for example, lol.
Lots of great info & ideas in this thread. I'm running PoE on a very borderline machine, so these tips will help.
