Noob question on Cast on Crit gem
|
Hello, i have linked in my boots the Cast on Crit gem with Arctic breat and Ethereal Knives but the spells do not cast and the icon says "Skill can't be used". If I remove the gem Cast on Crit the spell can be used again, why this happens?

you need to link CoC with an attack and the spells. Like coc des ription says, you cannot cast spells manually anymore if they are linked with coc

" What is your gem set up? Btw, spells cannot trigger CoC iirc. You need an 'attack' to do that. |

I'm seeing the same thing (another noob here). I just took a 3 socket linked boots and put in Lightning strike -> CoC -> Firestorm and both skills say they can't be used now. I've tried different gems and in different order but they always seem to say can't be used.
Edit: it appears that if I use elemental hit I can make it work. Has this changed perhaps to be melee only? Even whirling blades won't work. Last edited by inner_child#5522 on Jul 6, 2016, 10:12:52 AM

Cast on Crit is not Melee-only, no. If it was, it wouldn't work with Elemental Hit.
What weapon are you using? What boots are they socketed in? You're not giving much to work with. |

Well currently I have a wand - perhaps that's the reason. I'll try the combo with different weapons. Currently the CoC is set up in a pair of shackled boots. Does the CoC setup have to be in a weapon?

Wands are ranged weapons, you cannot use Lightning Strike with a Wand.

To elaborate on vipermagi's post, swap lightning strike for kinetic blast or power siphon. Then that skill will be usable and you should be casting firestorm whenever you crit with it.

" Use barrage or Kinetic Blast, since they do lots of hits. Power Siphon is OK but not in a 3L, you need at least GMP for it to work well with CoC. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

The weapon was it. I was changing too many things at once. Now I see how it should work. Thanks!
