Dimishing Returns via Currency Drop Rate

The wiki describes: (if still viable in open beta)

There is a penalty to the chance of currency items (scrolls, orbs, etc.) dropping in areas with a monster level more than two levels lower than your character level. For each additional level that you have compared to the area's monster level+2, the chance of a currency item drop is reduced by 2.5%.

For a game that focuses on killing mobs, grinding if desired and the need to explore every crook within an area to maybe get that nifty drop .... this Diminishing Return aspect just penalises the player who just wanna fully explore all map areas and take the game at a more lavish pace.

I agree with Dimishing returns But should be at a character level difference of around 5 levels.

In POE ... if one fully explores all Area Maps ... one can easily exceed this 2 level difference. Why should one be penalised for enjoying a game ?

The reason is that a higher level character can farm mobs much more efficiently in lower level areas. The currency rate dropoff is actually fair, because your increased mob-killing efficiency is balanced out by a decreased chance of currency dropping. These two factors should result in an effective currency drop rate equivalent to a character killing mobs of the same level.

I have been constantly dced 3/4 the way through areas in A1 and A2 the past few days and I just finished A2. I clear everything and I search everywhere and kill everything, including the side areas. I am the appropriate level for the start of act 3.

I imagine later on you're actually going to have to do grinding to get up to the recommended level.

Also one should be penalized because the currency is used all throughout the game. Let me know if I'm wrong (I'm still in normal, as you may know) but it seems that the orbs used will always be used. Alchemy orbs will still drop in higher level areas, so why farm an area that could potentially kill you, when you can farm an area that you one shot everything? Higher areas will most likely drop higher quality orbs, but you get decent orbs at these levels.
Yes I know that ... but a level 2 difference is a little bit too much. Just by normal exploration this can easily be exceeded. The only way is to rush through areas in Normal Difficulty which for me is against my rules.

This is mostly a problem in Normal Difficulty ... however remember for newcomers this can put them off ... if they hate this early penalty. Remember ... it's the first bite of the cake which determines whether you'll keep biting at the whole cake or just put it aside !

This system is fine. With fellshrine at lvl 54 and my ranger at level 72, there was tonnes of currencies dropping still. Well ok not tonnes, but its still fine.

I would rather not have the economy just get tanked, and this is at least one preventitive measure.
GGG - Why you no?
You are actually not penalized for being over-leveled. As I mentioned in my earlier post, your effective orbs per unit time remains the same when you are over-levelled, because the increased mobs killed per unit time when you are over-levelled balances out the decreased orbs dropped per mob.

Once you hit level 69 you're always considered level 69 in terms of drop rates, so there is a cut off for the penalty.

I see where you are coming from, and it does get annoying especially when you're in Cruel/Merciless hardcore and its in your best interest to be over-leveled vs. the enemies you're fighting - but that's the trade off to survival.

To be honest, even if you're 6 levels over the zone level, you're still collecting currency at 90% efficiency, which is high enough that if you were just playing the game rather than reading arbitrary mechanics that only apply if you're trying to exploit farming you wouldn't even notice any impact to your game.

Again, I've cleared areas multiple times including always a full clear. I just got into A3 and I'm level 30. I've even gone /back/ zones to play with friends so add even more clears to that. You'll be just fine.

On the subject of going back, even at 28 in an 18 zone, currency items were still dropping fairly regularly. Too much, if I'm being perfectly honest. Especially since I was one shotting everything.

About the newcomer thing, new players probably wont even know this info until they're halfway through A2. :p

to clarify, we got like 9 scrolls, 5 tps, and 4-5 assorted orb drops from one zone, one being a chaos. (Mine :3)
