making Cast On Death work

right now, Cast On Death seems more like a "troll gem".
the only use for it I know, is - in SC - linking it to Portal. but even this somewhat lost it's appeal with the introduction of Checkpoints.

so here are two possible approaches that would probably make Cast On Death be used:

#1: I died. Avenge Me!

taken from what many blue monsters are already doing, this approach makes your friends grow stronger from your demise.
introduce 3 new gems into the game:
  • Enrage: nearby party members gain Power Charges or a short Diamond Shrine effect. can only be used when linked to Cast On Death.
  • Hasten: nearby party members gain Frenzy Charges or Onslaught. can only be used when linked to Cast On Death.
  • Bulk: nearby party members gain Endurance Charges or a short Impenetrable Shrine effect. can only be used when linked to Cast On Death.


#2: go out with a bang

you don't need others to avenge yourself!
make skills like Vaal Detonate Dead be able to trigger by Cast On Death (and it alone), regardless of souls accumulated.
and/or introduce another new gem to the game:
Divine Wrath: the much bigger, much more powerful brother of Discharge. can only be used when linked to Cast On Death.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun
I use cast on death on a rushed alt and it works just fine against exiles/bosses in rip maps.

what I'm offering though, is Cast-On-Death-specific mechanics and synergies be added to the game, so anyone would actually want to use this gem.

You can already go out with a bang. If you 4L Discharge - Conc Effect - Inc Area of Effect - CoD at a high level and play a build that has a decent number of charges, you'll decimate all but the toughest bosses with your CoD Discharge. Remember that CoD gives something like a 300% *more* damage modifier.
I think it would be neat if cast on death could link to vaal skill gems, and they would work without having to gather souls first since you're using yourself as the sacrifice to pay the soul toll.
It's for PvP, portals, or for just screwing around
I've heard of people using CoD Cullers in SC. Dominus kills you, and you one-shot him with IIQ+IIR.

1. How do you one shot anything with iiq/iir?

2. Isn't it easier to just kill dominus normally without having to die each and every time in order to trigger your iiq/iir gems. Lol.

3. Is there a real purpose to this gem? I somewhat doubt they added cast on death to the game just to be able to create checkpoints in case you die? Or is that the purpose of this gem?

2 - If you're under-geared, it's probably faster to do a giant kamikaze discharge then to hack away for a couple minutes to kill him. Especially first form where you have to kite a lot.

3 - I'm pretty sure the devs had the idea of trigger gems, and made all the different types of triggers that seemed balanced enough to not be stupidly overpowered. Cast on Melee Kill is equally useless, and Curse on Hit only very slightly less so.
