Character Voices Extremely Quiet
the new patch seems to have made my templar, Clarissa, etc... all very quiet.
I'd guess, 1/2 to 1/3 as loud as my zombie noises etc. Every other noise in game seems fine, just their voices are very very quiet. i have a SB recon 3D card, nvidia gtx 770 with the sound drivers installed too, and windows 8.1, and that's about all you need to know i guess. everything was fine before the patch and i tried adjusting volumes in options in game, but not even close to fixing it. ps... sell, mercenaries, $$$ This thread has been automatically archived. I have the exact opposite, voices are about twice as loud as they were pre-patch for me. Other sounds don't seem affected. I'm using Realtek HD onboard sound, nothing's changed on my end driver- or hardware-wise.

"Me too! The vendors are really loud now and I don't see an option to lower their voices outside of just lowering all the sounds. Guild Leader The Amazon Basin <BASIN>

" in options there's a sound/dialogue option slider for sound that can turn off their voices altogether... which may help you guys (should let you quiet em a little with the slider) but for me it's no help... having the opposite problem of you guys and cranked to max it still is super quiet |

On my side, the reverb was just enabled. I don't remember if it was there before. All voices are reverbed, except it town, and this is very annoying. So I've disabled the option.

Thanks for the reports! We are currently looking into this. Any information you can provide about your experience with this issue would be much appreciated.

I'm using a SteelSeries Diablo 3 headset (sorry lol, bought before I discovered PoE) and the driver shows as Siberia v2 D3H. Hope that helps! Voices are the only thing I noticed being louder after the patch.

" Hey Bex... have some possibly useful info... gonna get detailed. just got home and tested a few settings in the options/sound part of this game: it was set to "Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)" i assume the patch wouldn't change that setting. I assume it's what it has always been set to. When i CHANGE the setting to "Generic Software on Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)" the dialogue is normal (perfect) volume, reverb etc. WITHOUT the change, the dialogue volume slider only changes volume at around 1% to 5% of the bar where it gets very very quiet till finally, off completely... the rest of the slider (6% or so, to 100% max volume) has no noticeable change and the volume is way too quiet (1/2 to 1/4 volume of other sounds). Again, all that occurs ONLY when set to "Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)". Basically i think the new patch somehow is preventing my normal "Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)" from working as it did before. "Generic Software on Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)" works fine. other people have the opposite problem and maybe that means their settings just need to be switched too. whether this new setting is a performance hit in game i have no clue. all i can say. done testing, and leaving it at "Generic Software on Speakers (SB Recon3D PCIe)" cuz it at least sounds perfect. (NOTE: this is similar to what happens when you try to run surround sound on a 2 speaker setup... the extra channel setup can cause sever volume loss). Related or not, i have no clue. |

***IMPORTANT ****** **EDIT** After reading the previous post, I decided to try another sound option in POE. My default option has always been "Hardware sound Asus Xonar DX ". After changing it to "SOFTWARE sound Asus Xonar DX" all the sounds work fine. HOWEVER - Software sound can't be a proper solution as performance will be slower, esp on average / low end machines. Hey guys, the exact same problem arose last year as well when major audio changed were made to the game. (reverb was added) I'm using Win 7 x64 and a Asus Xonar Dx sound card. I let the developers know about the problem last year and it was fixed in the next patch. So, I hope they will fix it again. It seems to me that every time they make major changes some glitch occurs with the npc voices. The problem has nothing to do with our sound cards, drivers etc. It has to do with the sound engine of the game / some sound files. The only sort of temporary fix is to turn up the volume on your speakers (if possible) and lower the sound effect volume, while keeping the dialog volume max. The sound you will get is far from perfect but it will help a little.
