What level should I lvl my Clarity gem?

I'm a lng witch, and don't know what is optimal.

Max, because you can get a reduced mana gem and then all is well.

I started having this issue last night when I was running my Clarity (lvl 10 or something) with my lower level Discipline gem. I found that I didn't have enough mana to cast my high cost spell (130 or something for Spear Totem with Cold Pen and LMP) so I stopped using Discipline for awhile, but grabbed a Reduced Mana from the trade channel and linked it to both my Auras, and now I'm good.

Note that Reduced Mana doesn't work for % reserved auras though, like Purity, which is a bit disappointing.

Incorrect - yesterday i equipped my reduced mana gem on a 40% aura (i think it might hvae been purity) and while the tool-tip on the gem itself still said 40%, if you equip the skill to a keyslot and then hover it there it showed 36%

This is correct - I have purity down to 31% on my Templar.

Good to know, thanks for clearing that up for me.

My understanding is that Reduced Mana affects auras, however if you have + quality that will not count towards the aura. I haven't verified this for myself, however.

This is correct. You should level your clarity gem to lvl 20. You should keep it at a level where you can sustain mana though. So if you are struggling with your mana pool, its better to NOT level it until you get more mana.

I currently have my purity aura down to 30% reserved that's with level 16 reduced mana attached.
