What is with people trading 1 chaos orb for 3 vaal orbs (ambush)

I stopped reading at the official rate. That and calling the seller an idiot too, when it's totally reasonable.

Looks like someone is a know-it-all jerk.

I've just had two idiots talking to me about trading Vaal Orbs.

One offered a Fusing for a Vaal (because he reasoned that the exchange rate is somehow 1 Chaos Orb = 3 Vaal Orbs).

The other just stupidly said "it's always been like this".

Why do people think like this?

More like the other way around. Interesting that the exchange rates can differ so much one league to another.

On standard league vaal orbs are worth more than chaos orbs. Usually 2 chaos for 1 vaal orb.

Vaal orbs are incredibly useful when rolling maps. The only way to get 8 modifiers and a crazy map quantity and also a chance to get +1 to map level.

How anyone can value them below chaos orbs i don't understand.
Since no one's really pointed out why Vaal orbs are so cheap, and just mentioned that they are, I figured I should point out why. As everyone's said, they're not super useful, but that's only sort of right. Really the reason Vaal orb prices will always trend downwards is spammability. I can use tens of thousands of alts, or hundreds of jewellers, thousands of fuses, or tens of thousands of chromes, countless eternal/exalts, all on a single item, hell, I can even mirror it an infinite number of times. But I can only use a single Vaal, and worse still, the value of the item I Vaal acts as a discouragement to use that Vaal.

That's the real reason they're so cheap, and will always be cheap. The economy just can't get rid of the orbs fast enough.

You can of course use them on stuff like maps, but even then, same goes for most other currency, it's just a hard orb to get rid of, compared to the others.

Its diff ambush or standart.
I bet u talking about ambush, yes there are ppl which still seling vaals for 3:1.
you can spam vaal orbs the same as chance orbs.

and yes agree...3 for chaos is very cheap, especially after drop was nerfed. 1-2 chaos for 1 vaal orb makes more sense to me.

I'd much rather have Chaos orbs than Vaal orbs, so that exchange rate sounds about right to me. Why do you value Vaal orbs so high?

Actually, I have some Vaal orbs I can trade you. How many chaos will you give me for them?

The "official" rate according to 2 currency exchange rate websites are 2 chaos = 1 vaal orb.

But if you think they aren't worth much let's do the 3 vaal = 1 chaos orb trade.

Yeah i think you're reading those charts wrong. Wait, will you sell me 587Exalts for 1 Alteration? :P

You either don't need it at all (early game to mid/endgame) or you need a lot of them (endgame to ultra rich unique / 20% gem rolling).

Yup, and that's why I can still pick them up at 3:1c even though they drop less frequently than a chaos now. In time that will probably shift as more people come to need them (as in Standard). (endgame - ultra rich phase)

All said, I think Vaals are one of the most powerful orbs of them all.

ie this boot and the gems within are massively more powerful (and valuable) thanks to the use of many, many Vaal orbs.

It takes so many Vaals to get there though, that I am happy I can still nab them at 1:3 :)

vaal orbs are too good imo. I'd gladly take your vaals at 3;1

When looking at standard league, you also have to take into account there are years worth of Chaos orbs present on the servers but only 2 months worth of Vaal orbs. In Ambush, they have been dropping for the same amount of time.

Vaals have a somewhat more reasonable use in mapping. I often have had 76-s turn into 77-s or with at least a higher IIQ/IIR roll. Compared to using it on items where I have had more uniques turn into bricks the positive effects on maps seems to be more then the negative.

Yet again this is true if your build can handle most of the map mods and where increased mod quantity is actually a useful thing.
